A surprisingly easy-drinking dark ale with a medium body, malty palate and a smooth dry finish. Our alt is brewed in the tradition of the German "sticke" or "secret" alt which was a fuller, darker, and higher alcohol alt served unadvertised by German brewpubs at regular ale prices as a reward to regular customers who knew to ask for it.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a cloudy brown with a small tan head. Aroma of nutty sweet malt and light fruits. Flavor is still nutty with sweet fruits and a bready malt and bitter finish. Pretty easy drinking and tasty. 7/4/7/4/14 [3.6/5]

Draft at brewpub. Pours a deep mahogany with a light beige head. Bready area,. Flavor of dark bread and german malts countered by a moderate bitterness of European hops. Dry finish is not as clean as more notable versions of the style.

ansermadide (1526) - Kyle, Texas, USA - JAN 3, 2010
Pours a solid black color with a Brown tint and a healthy brown head that fades to leave a light layer of bubbles on the surface. Spotty, bubbly lacing. Aroma of lightly roasted malt and light hops. Flavor that of a subdued bitter dry stout. Light body and just a little bitter on the finish. A little too light for the looks, but pleasantly light.

Bottle. Pour is clear dark brown with a light off-white head. Aroma is roasted malt, light coffee, faint chocolate, and a mild pine hop component. Flavor is roasty and crisp. Its a pretty neat flavor and leaves a nice lingering roasted malt flavor with a faint hop character.

12oz bottle. Pours a creamy dark chocolate color with a huge airy bubbly light tan head. Aroma of chocolate chip cookie dough, bright berries, sourish, sharp and very odd, surely infected. Flavor follows, dark chocolate cookie dough for sure and old coffee, very cooke like, hint of tart berries, so weird. Massive carbonation, harsh. Another brewery who cant bottle.

On tap. Poured a dark brown with a thick light brown head. Aroma had notes of caramel, cereal and dark breads. Flavor was full of dark sweet notes, such as caramel and molasses.

esjaygee (3904) - Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA - JUL 30, 2009
Dark brown with a colossal beige head that slowly fades away and requires multiple pours from the bottle to fit all of the beer into the glass. Aroma of caramel, cereal grains, roasted malt, mild smoke and earthy hops. Taste of dark malt, mild sourness, chocolate and mild caramel. Body is over carbonated but it ends up being smooth and finishes up with some moderate sourness.
