12 oz bottle. Pours brown with a creamy off white head that retains and laces the glass.jeffwilliams11 (310) - hooterville, Michigan, USA - APR 26, 2008
The aroma is sweet sugary caramel and dark fruits
The flavor is is yeasty with some chocolate malt and some fruit. It has some acidic plastic and metallic bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and slightly watery.
Overall, it kind of reminds me of Jolly Pumpkin’s Bam Noire, but not as good.
another arbor beer that is a gusher...took 5 min to pour off the rootbeer float head. flavor is really nice, coffee and caramel. mild and easy to drink. Hudspart (538) - Byron Center, Michigan, USA - APR 16, 2008
Bottle: Pours fairly dark with a fizzy head. Aroma and flavor of fruits and malts. Acutally pretty good. iowaherkeye (2703) - Ocean Beach, San Diego, California, USA - FEB 9, 2008
12oz bottle, no date. Very deep red with a 1/2 finger beige head that lasted 12 seonds before fading to a thin ring and almost nonexistent film. Aroma of some roast, light chocolate, and some cola. Nosing it a bit more and it’s got some raisins and a hint of burnt plastic. Flavor added a bit of fruity notes (I can’t place) and lost the burnt plastic notes. Still burped the plastic though. Earthy char bitter finish (3 out of 10). Moderate carbonation with a light to medium body. An OK beer. Phil (181) - Kent, ENGLAND - FEB 3, 2008
Really enjoyed this. A random treat from an american friend. Dark ale, either like this, or dark lager in style are always must tries for me. And this just left me wanting more. I was a little shocked by the carbonation, which was a little OTT. But, all in a all very well made, balanced, and very German alt: Often not a favourite of mine.

Draft at Corner Brewery. Really dark brown with a nutty aroma. Chocolate flavor with a dry finish. Sweet for the style which is just fine with me. Goblincat (399) - Petersburg, Michigan, USA - DEC 30, 2007
Very dark, almost black with a thin tan ring of head around the edge of the glass. The aroma seems to be mostly coffee. The taste is kind of like watered down coffee with cream and a bit of malt. Overall I expected more based on the description, but it is drinkable. 3fourths (9347) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - DEC 25, 2007
Bottle. Overcarbonated, mildly infection, they get what they deserve, not taking care of their bottling. Dark like porter with a tan cola-bubbled head. Nose is heavily acidic muddy yeast, some munich malts, some caramel malts, some mild, dry hops, and some salty soy character as well, showing up more in the flavor. The infection is mild, the butter and chemical flavors aren’t running rampant, and you can get a sense of what they’re trying to do with this beer, but it’s about as far off from altbier as I’ve ever experienced. Chewy soy and char belong nowhere near altbier. Finishes disorganized and acidic. Not good at all. dsm (109) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - DEC 10, 2007
sample at brewpub. Poured dark brown with a minimal head. It is very smooth, dry, and easily drinkable. milewide (2250) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - NOV 6, 2007
Black, clear color with modest head. Mostly malt flavor, with some sweetness and little hop bitterness. IMHO this is a good example of the style.
