A surprisingly easy-drinking dark ale with a medium body, malty palate and a smooth dry finish. Our alt is brewed in the tradition of the German "sticke" or "secret" alt which was a fuller, darker, and higher alcohol alt served unadvertised by German brewpubs at regular ale prices as a reward to regular customers who knew to ask for it.

AOF (306) - Naperville, Illinois, USA - OCT 14, 2007
Dark brown, almost black in color with full creamy white head. Dark roasted malt aromas with a bit of nuttiness, bittersweet chocolate, and an herbal aftertaste strangely enough like Dr. Pepper. Well carbonated and highly drinkable. Medium to full in body with a creamy texture and nice clean finish.

marcus (10349) - Sacramento, California, USA - SEP 27, 2007
This black ale poured with a massive tan head and a malty aroma. This beer is extremely carbonated. There is a pleasant slightly sweet smoked malt flavor.

AlabastorJones (814) - Seattle, Washington, USA - SEP 21, 2007
over-carbonated, deep dark brown body with a huge ice cream float head, malty mocha nose, hops, bitter finish, herbal, dry, slightly tart and acidic, roasted and dark

12 oz. bottle from Dansting. Pour is an explosively large tan / off-white head. Mahogany color. Aroma is nutty and smoky. Taste is a nice nut maltiness with a slightly roasted finish. Nice subtle flavors and a very drinkable beer.

lumberjack (178) - Michigan, USA - AUG 21, 2007
Dark brown with massive light brown head. Malty flavor with some roasted chocolate and something that is a bit of a metallic-like bitterness. Not bad.

redlem (1306) - Ohio, USA - AUG 21, 2007
Dark brown, some lacing. Average roast in aroma and taste. Not bitter, fairly smooth. Good session.

badnewsbeers (2312) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - JUL 16, 2007
welldone..dark brown body with massive beige head...aroma is somewhat lacking but has sort of a chocolate earthy backbone; creamy body gives rise to the nutty chocolate, caramel, and toasted flavor profile....nice palate

gearbike (512) - West Bloomfield, Michigan, USA - JUL 13, 2007
Dark with big frothy off white head. A flavor mix of nut, cocoa, and wood hints. But all flavors and the mouthfeel itself are very light.

BigBeer45 (1542) - Michigan, USA - JUL 5, 2007
Pours dark brown with some ruby around the edges, very carbonated, lots of tan bubbles, head never gave up, it was always there, aromas of bread, caramel and dark malt, faint brown sugar, molasses and hints of licorice, faint floral fragrance, very bubbly in the mouth, flavor of malt sweetness, dark malt with some fruit, some taste of pumpernickel bread, sweet on the palate that turns dry quickly, light fruit taste, finishes dry with some bitterness, the carbonation gets in the way of the taste, could have used a little less carbo in this beer.
