Pours an almost black brown with almost no head. Aroma of roasted malt, slight hops, and coffee. Flavor is similar, with the addition of dried fruits and molasses. Very easy to drink, but nothing to hunt down.
12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 8/9/2016. Pours slightly hazy very dark brown color with a 1-2 finger dense khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big caramel, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, and dark/brown breads; with lighter notes of toffee, nuttiness, chocolate, dark fruit, herbal, floral, and roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity dark/bready/light roasted malt and light-moderate earthy hop/fruity yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of big caramel, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, and dark/brown breads; with lighter notes of toffee, nuttiness, chocolate, dark fruit, herbal, floral, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/spicy hop and light roasted bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, and dark/brown breads; with lighter notes of toffee, nuttiness, chocolate, dark fruit, herbal, floral, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/light roasted malt and light-moderate earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Light dryness from hop/roast bitterness, lightly increasing through the glass. Nicely clean on lager flavors, not too fruity/yeasty. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.5%. Overall this is a delicious Dusseldorf altbier style. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/light roasted malt and light-moderate earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; very smooth, clean, and easy to drink. Very rich and complex malt flavors, with balancing hops and restrained yeast fruitiness. Quite a bit darker in color than I would expect, but the flavors are spot on to style otherwise. Pour out of 12 oz bottle, dark orange-red pour with white head, aroma brought notes of caramel, toffee, hints of dark fruit, slight toasted bread note. Definitely a dark altbier. Big tan head that sticks frever. Smell is malty and caramally with a big hit of metal. Flavor is similiar, a nice smack of metal coats the beer. It works a lot more in the smell than the flavor.

Tap: deep brown with dark ruby and mahogany tints hidden throughout. The light-tan head settles as a film about three millimeters thick and lasts for quite a while down the glass. Light aroma; both sweet and roasty malts with heavy chocolate overtones. Crisp yeast aromas on the back-end with some musk, dry hops mingling within. Though the aroma didn’t give it away, the flavor has plenty of dry roasted coffee beans in it; dry, roasty, light cocoa powder with some backside impending sweetness that comes and goes quickly. Almost raisin-like and even borderline tart for a split second. Bitter-roasted, nearly acrid aftertaste with burnt coffee beans, dark malt, and light cocoa. Dark beer with brown highlights when held against the light. Creamy brown head. Big malty nose with strong fruit notes. Very carbonated. The 22 German Alt pours black with very little tan brown head that leaves little lacing. The aroma leads me to believe that it's high in alcohol and is fairly malty. The flavor is smooth and malty. Vanilla, caramel and wood are he flavors I pick up in the flavor. Overall this is a pretty decent beer.

This is listed as a "winter seasonal." I picked mine up in May. Not sure about degradation over time of Alt Bier’s. Not sure I want to go down that rabbit hole today. Pours dark. Hints of coffee and dark chocolate. Of late, I have become a bigger fan of alt biers as a way to go low on the ABV while maintaining flavor. I would like to get the chance to try this beer closer to its bottling date.
