[Bottle from Nina’s Mini Market in Edinburgh, Scotland]
Bottle from AP Harvey Wines, Coventry. Pours deep-hazed orange under a fine white collar. Somewhat Belgian aroma with botanical suggestions, strawberries and cream, mushy tropical fruit salad; dragon fruit, mango, blackcurrant. Brittle, botanical flavour with a clean, ringing breakfast juice and tonic bitterness edged with husk. Hot and yeasty. Good, but a little anticlimactic after the outstanding Nugget; the bitterness and heat somewhat overwhelming the aromatics. JKaranka (58) - Cardiff, WALES - NOV 25, 2012
Had this in bottle.
Aroma: on the nose there is plenty of fruit and a slight sweetness, mainly some orange, some watermelon and some grapefruit.
Appearance: normalish looking IPA, not particularly thick head.
Taste: pleasing at the tip of the tongue, with the fruit character overshadowed by a deep bitterness, with some grapefruit still present. No noticeable malts. Towards the back of the mouth the bitterness was acidic and vinegary, reminiscent of bile. This was the aspect of the bottle that completely threw me off.
Palate: light body for an IPA, quite astringent finish.
Overall: this beer is great in the glass, but not when you swallow it.
