UPDATED: NOV 19, 2014 The Barrel Aged Cereal Killer marks a craft beer milestone for me. In addition to being my first barley wine, it’s the first beer that I’ve had that’s been aged for more than a year. This brew had an aroma of cocoa and bourbon. The flavor was pure awesomeness. Lots of rich chocolate, caramel, and booze. No doubt, the aging contributed to this brew’s smoothness and sublime sweetness. This malty, boozy ale is, well, a killer. Mark_Eck (1948) - - JUN 15, 2016
Notes from summer. Draft. Pours a reddish brown. Aroma and taste are caramel, bourbon, and oak. SG111 (1821) - New York, USA - NOV 4, 2016
Tap at Hop cat, Detroit. Pours very dark color, ruby tinge. No head. Aroma is bourbon for days, vanilla, toffee, figs, dark fruit, rich caramel, wow, the bourbon is beautifully done. Flavor is bourbon, plum, dark fruit, toffee. Reminds me of Central Waters bourbon barrel aged Barleywine. This is top notch. BMMillsy (1788) - Florida, USA - APR 1, 2014
Bottle from trade. Looks like it says 2012 on the bottle, poured 4/1/14. Pours murky brown with a bit of purple and red, and a small creamy yellowish brown head. Smells like vanilla, caramel, marshmallow, toffee, fig, bourbon. Beautiful. Flavor is gifs and bourbon, a blast of vanilla on the finish, slight oxidization but not bad. Mouthfeel starts rich and thick, but with very low carbonation that seems to make this feel a little thin. Some more carb would help the mouthfeel. Very nice beer that I would like to try fresh. Amazing bourbon aroma with a hint of cherries. Tastes like cherries, vanilla, plums and booze. A little hot. Might put one away to try in a year.

Bottle. What a brew. Pours a deep brown toward purple with a thin khaki ring of head that left a thick wall of lace on the glass. Very complex nose involving sappy walnut tree, rich ruby port, molasses and assorted dark fruits, some grape wine-like character, cherry pipe tobacco, barbecue and soy, and some alcohol vapors. Very sweet in flavor but also pretty bitter, though probably not enough to balance. Full bodied, sticky, with a long warm fruity wine-like finish. Really awesome brew, happy to try. Probably should have shared, though, as this rocked me to no surprise. brystmar (1314) - Dallas, Texas, USA - SEP 5, 2013
Thanks Scott! Dark caramel color, minimal head/lace. Smells of booze, oak, oxidation, and bourbon. Thin; needs way more body. Decent taste I guess; doesn't resonate. Not bad, but def forgettable. polomagnifico (1202) - Saginaw, Michigan, USA - JAN 13, 2013
Bottle. Aroma has notes of bourbon, brown sugar, caramel, dark dried fruits, toasted malts and oak. Dark rusty amber hue with a small off-white head that mostly diminished and left no lace. Flavor is very sweet and bitter. Palate is very full bodied and oily soft. Great Barley Wine that is balanced well with the bourbon. The aromas became much more complex as it warmed. Great one from Arcadia. walleye (1099) - Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA - JUN 24, 2013
Bottle. poured brown with beige head that didn’t last left a small amount of lacing. aroma middle of the road bourbon, dark fruits, caramel, vanilla. 1st taste was not impressed, had to let it warm to get some flavors out of it the bourbon still tasted on the cheap side Experiment_Ale (1098) - Dallas, Texas, USA - SEP 5, 2013
