Aromas of peanut butter, oak, black licorice, leather, roasted black malts, figs, raisins, charred tree bark, campfire ash, charcoal, chocolate, cocoa nibs and red wine fruitiness. Pours black with a half finger lively tan head. Taste brings absurdly smooth milk chocolate, silky roasted black malts, toffee, chocolate covered biscottii, almonds, hazelnut latte, cappuccino, milk duds and vanilla. Mid palate gives way to gentle notes of barrel wood, sawdust, oak, aged black malt syrup, coconut, vanilla, bourbon and fannie mae candy. Finishes ridiculously smooth with very unique charred tree bark, dark cacao, black wort syrup, high end chocolate and latte notes lingering on the palate. Overall, this beer is so smooth and well rounded. I don't get any alcohol burn whatsoever which is impressive at 12%. I can't recommend seeking this out enough. A+ rating.

Black pour with a dark tan head. Aroma is milk chocolate, roast, coffee, vanilla, caramel, light alcohol. Medium to full body, milk chocolate flavor dominates with a moderate barrel presence.

Bottle. Woody bourbon, chocolate malt, and dry hay aroma. Dark brown with minimal head. Moderately sweet chocolate, vanilla, toasted bread malt, bourbon, and moderately bitter dry hay flavor. Great body and blending. Delicious.

UPDATED: APR 3, 2017 Bottle shared with Frank. Vintage 2015. Aroma is sweet, roasted malt, slight apple, booze, oxidized, eh. Appearance is dark brown, light brown head, poured thin. Taste is oxidized, roasted malt, coffee, booze, barrel, not good. Mouthfeel is medium body, light carbonation, oxidized barrel aftertaste. Overall, horribly disappointing.

The Twelve Beer of my #6000 celebration (#12 of 13 - six beers on either side of 6000 and the milestone itself). Deep dark brown coloured body with a thinnish, two centimetre tall light brown head that fades relatively quickly. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt, light chocolate, bourbon, oak, vanilla, tobacco, caramel and a light dose of soy sauce. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong roasty flavour with a great chocolate flavour along with some cacao power, toffee, pit fruits, oak, vanilla and some smooth coffee notes near the end. Aftertaste is robust and very complex with some tobacco coupled with a lot of caramelised sugar notes, pit fruits and the oak really lengthens out the flavour with vanilla, bourbon and some smooth malt and peat notes. Overall, a very nice beer with a great flavour and smooth and deep complexity that hits all the right notes; If there was one thing I’d complain about, it’s the body which is a touch thin for the style, but the complexity and flavours more than make up for it. Nice to sample, and the time in the bottle probably helped out this one a bit. I sampled this foil topped, twelve ounce bottle purchased from Seaway Party Store in Grand Haven, Michigan on 09-September-2015 for US$8,49 sampled at home in Washington as #6005 as my #6000 beer celebration on 28-March-2017.

12 ounce bottle from flandersned. Thanks! The beer is a thick black with a khaki head of foam. The aroma has big honeycomb and and boozy sweet caramel. Sweet taste with a huge bourbon character that stays up front throughout. Thick, viscous mouthfeel. Big body and moderate carbonation.

Tap at Hop Cat, Detroit. Pours the murkiest chocolate syrup brown, with a gorgeous tan head. Aroma is lots of bourbon, chocolate, toffee, booze, fig, BBA Barleywine notes. Gorgeous. Love that nose. Flavor is smooth bourbon (almost nitro notes), chocolate, coffee, fig, toffee, vanilla. Loving this one.

Bourbon galore & it’s fantastic! Beautiful black pour w/ a lasting tan head & nice lacing. The aroma is primarily bourbon w/ some oak & vanilla coming through. The flavor is mainly slightly sweet bourbon, booze, & a hint of porter bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is very light yet it’s still a sipping beer. Powerful & worth the $7 for a 12 oz bottle experience!

Bottle at home. Nearly black pour with very little head. The aroma is raisins, oxidation, fudge, whiskey, oak. This is full bodied and viscous. Flavors of ripe red fruits, vanilla, butterscotch, wood, cocoa powder, char. Light acidity on the finish. Very good.
