4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 oz. bottle to CBS snifter. Fairly opaque brown as I watch it slide out of the bottle yet it settles much darker with a smidgen of the aforementioned opaqueness creeping on the perimeter, yes folks this was once a porter. I had a few of these fresh out of the gate and thought they were hot and overly bourbon-ey (I did not rate at the time). Quarter inch off-brown head that dissipates quickly but never entirely disappears, smells of vanilla bean, whiskey, wood, and mocha. Taste is sweet and bourbon, medium mouthfeel, low carbonation, finish is long coffee. This is much better than the younger ones I have drank, I can see this possibly even getting better, however very nice right now. The heat has really dropped off, the bourbon is still in the forefront yet it seems like its on a journey to integrate with its friends. This is a nice winter sipper look forward to re-rating this a few winters from now.
355ml bottle (thx, Chris S.!). Pours an almost black with a dark beige head. Aroma is sweet with whiskey, barrel, molasses, some chocolate notes. Similar taste. Very nice. shrubber85 (11570) - Greenville, Indiana, USA - MAY 19, 2017
Bottle. Woody bourbon, chocolate malt, and dry hay aroma. Dark brown with minimal head. Moderately sweet chocolate, vanilla, toasted bread malt, bourbon, and moderately bitter dry hay flavor. Great body and blending. Delicious. ebone1988 (2071) - Dearborn, Michigan, USA - APR 2, 2017
UPDATED: APR 3, 2017 Bottle shared with Frank. Vintage 2015. Aroma is sweet, roasted malt, slight apple, booze, oxidized, eh. Appearance is dark brown, light brown head, poured thin. Taste is oxidized, roasted malt, coffee, booze, barrel, not good. Mouthfeel is medium body, light carbonation, oxidized barrel aftertaste. Overall, horribly disappointing. jgb9348 (6433) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - MAR 29, 2017
The Twelve Beer of my #6000 celebration (#12 of 13 - six beers on either side of 6000 and the milestone itself). Deep dark brown coloured body with a thinnish, two centimetre tall light brown head that fades relatively quickly. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt, light chocolate, bourbon, oak, vanilla, tobacco, caramel and a light dose of soy sauce. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong roasty flavour with a great chocolate flavour along with some cacao power, toffee, pit fruits, oak, vanilla and some smooth coffee notes near the end. Aftertaste is robust and very complex with some tobacco coupled with a lot of caramelised sugar notes, pit fruits and the oak really lengthens out the flavour with vanilla, bourbon and some smooth malt and peat notes. Overall, a very nice beer with a great flavour and smooth and deep complexity that hits all the right notes; If there was one thing I’d complain about, it’s the body which is a touch thin for the style, but the complexity and flavours more than make up for it. Nice to sample, and the time in the bottle probably helped out this one a bit. I sampled this foil topped, twelve ounce bottle purchased from Seaway Party Store in Grand Haven, Michigan on 09-September-2015 for US$8,49 sampled at home in Washington as #6005 as my #6000 beer celebration on 28-March-2017. 12 ounce bottle from flandersned. Thanks! The beer is a thick black with a khaki head of foam. The aroma has big honeycomb and and boozy sweet caramel. Sweet taste with a huge bourbon character that stays up front throughout. Thick, viscous mouthfeel. Big body and moderate carbonation.

Tap at Hop Cat, Detroit. Pours the murkiest chocolate syrup brown, with a gorgeous tan head. Aroma is lots of bourbon, chocolate, toffee, booze, fig, BBA Barleywine notes. Gorgeous. Love that nose. Flavor is smooth bourbon (almost nitro notes), chocolate, coffee, fig, toffee, vanilla. Loving this one. jrodooo5 (1704) - DOVER, Delaware, USA - DEC 31, 2016
Bourbon galore & it’s fantastic! Beautiful black pour w/ a lasting tan head & nice lacing. The aroma is primarily bourbon w/ some oak & vanilla coming through. The flavor is mainly slightly sweet bourbon, booze, & a hint of porter bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is very light yet it’s still a sipping beer. Powerful & worth the $7 for a 12 oz bottle experience! scarletfire65 (1491) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 30, 2016
Bottle at home. Nearly black pour with very little head. The aroma is raisins, oxidation, fudge, whiskey, oak. This is full bodied and viscous. Flavors of ripe red fruits, vanilla, butterscotch, wood, cocoa powder, char. Light acidity on the finish. Very good. fuzzcro (295) - Illinois, USA - DEC 15, 2016
Pleasantly different. I believe this was the first barrel aged porter I’ve ever had. Though high ABV it didn’t overwhelm and I was especially happy to find the vanilla flavor coming through. Niko100 (2978) - Chicago, New York, USA - AUG 17, 2016
Dark brown/black color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of toasted malt, molasses, vanilla, some dark fruit, & bourbon notes; Flavor of roasted sweet malt, dark chocolate, vanilla/caramel, dark fruit, and some bourbon; Warm finish; Pretty good but was expecting more.
