4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at the brew pub, great bourbon and dark malt aroma. Tons of caramel on the taste as well as dark fruits and bourbon, pretty boozy... fantastic!
UPDATED: OCT 8, 2017 Tap at MBGC. Pours deep brown, ring of white head peripherally. Aroma is vinegar sour brown notes, barrel character, bourbon, toffee, vanilla. Lovely. Flavor is bourbon, slightly tart vinegar undertones, booze, vanilla toffee. The bourbon dominates and the oud bruin undertones compliment it well. Still a bit sweet and intense for me to do more than a taster. Some medium acidity to it. Solid but the more I drink, the lower the rating gets. There's a weird sharp burn in the back that isn't pleasant. Poor aftertaste and the bourbon plus acidity is a bit odd. Still worth trying. jmagnus87 (3302) - Rockford, Illinois, USA - FEB 21, 2015

Pour on tap at Old Chicago, dark brownish black pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of caramel, vanilla, toffee, some hints of dark cocoa into a bit of barrel, oak in there as well. Taste was dark cocoa, sweet vanilla, caramel, some sweet oaky barrel notes, finishing fairly sweet, no real sign of booze in there. cheap (6087) - Beaver Valley, Beaver County, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 6, 2014
From the start, on tap at bocktown, this is a kik ass beer, no lie! Smell is sweet volatile perfume. Very dark beer. Some co2 and surprising for such a big beer. Taste is whisky laced beer, what else? No shit this is high alky, it lets you know right from the start its going to warm yer body from the lips to the gullet. Difficult unless you want an immediate buzz. Wew, don’t have 2’ Could drink shots of this and still be happy! WTF the smell lets it be over 2, hweheh FROTHINGSLOSH (8142) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 30, 2014
Sampled on draft at Hou Thou this beer poured a black color with a small foamy off white head that faded and left a bit of lacing. The aroma was malty with notes of molasses, rum and a touch of smoke. The flavor was bourbon, molasses, tobacco, wood, anise and vague fruity hops. Long finish. Moderately full bodied though a bit undercarbonated. The alcohol was fairly well contained. Interesting.

Draft at Rockwell/Republic - pours a deep murky brown . Sweet caramel and bready aromas . Fair amount of smooth bourbon sweetness . 13% was very well hidden . Fun beer . b3shine (9145) - Indiana, USA - APR 29, 2014
Draft to taster at Arcadia in Kalamazoo. Per the menu, this is a barrel-aged imperial brown ale. Looks good; a translucent cola with foamy beige head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells solid; nutty, oaky, and boozy. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. Some vanilla too. Not bad, but lacks complexity. bwa5879 (959) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - APR 27, 2014
Dark brown cola-like pour with thin beige head. Really great sweet bourbon and brandy scent, dar fruits and molasses. Strong flavor, robust peaty malts throughout, tons of dark fruits, carmel, vanilla, lighter and sweeter than a BBA imperial stout. Really smokey and full bodied with great amount of bourbon.
