Thanks Styles. The beer pours to a lightly hazy dark amber body with nice white head. The aroma is squirt soda. Nice grapefruityness. The flavor is caramelly malts and grapefruit sections. Slightly hazy copper color. Creamy soapy head. Aroma has strong pine + flowers, some Pez and grapefruit. Very bright and flowery with some brown sugar. Has a wonderful hoppy aroma. Nice darker amber body and white head. Flavor is pretty nice, somewhat hoppy, but seems to have a bit of grapefruit - pretty interesting. Has a decent body and carbonation. Overall, this is quite good and enjoyable. MIBRomeo (2579) - Wisconsin, USA - APR 18, 2006
pours a nice crimson color w/ a huge off white frothy head and some great lacing. a nice spiced hop w/ a good fresh grapefruit aroma. Smells lightly sweet but definately hop diminated. Palate is smooth and well coated lightly oily. Flavor is a little mild, very smooth and blended. A very light bitter nice balanced carmel malts and grapefruit juice, some flower notes as well. Pours an amber red with pillowy off white head and decent activity. Aroma is a grassy earthy hop and a bit of malt. Hops have presence but a little understated for a double IPA. The flavor is initially sweet followed by a piney hop bitterness, that isn’t what I’d classify as a dubble IPA strengh. There is carmel malt ballancing and neither the malt or hop overwealm, which is a nice aspect, but it doesn’t have the power I hoped for; hop, alcohol, or otherwise. Malt is a bit buttery and also a bit fruity with a toasty malt finish.

This beer pours a drab, dark, amber-brown color, but shows pretty notes of a hazy, orangish copper colored beer when held up to the light. While pouring this beer from my 22oz bottle, it produces an initial head of about three fingers thick and it is a creamy tan color. The aroma is expressively hoppy with sweet notes of grapefruit and tangerine being prominent. The aroma is just sweet smelling enough that it almost reminds me of candied citrus peels, but there is a touch of crystal malt caramel flavors here as well.skaughty (652) - Marietta, Georgia, USA - APR 6, 2006
The taste is fairly sweet as well, it is a combination of the bright citrus-like hop flavors and the sweet malt notes that make it sweet. This has a certain creaminess to it as it rests in my mouth, it is definitely on the full side, but is not heavy like say a Barleywine would be. While the citrus/ fruity hop notes certainly dominate this beer there is an undercurrent of herbal pine notes that sort of morph into a lingering bitter note that attempts to dominate the finish, but can’t quite do it because those sweet citrus notes refuse to be subdued. This beer has flavors that make me think of ruby-red grapefruits, fleshy-sweet apricots, some notes of sweet tangerines and of course orange. The malt plays a supporting role, but does supply some sweet malt character in the form of caramel flavors as well as some lightly toasted grain notes.
This is a nice example of a Double IPA, it has the body and heft to stand up to the ample hops, but does not become too cloying. It is certainly not as abrasive and raw as some, but to be honest I am not in the mood for tongue peeling hops right now anyway. The focus on soft, fruity hop notes makes this version drinkable yet suitably hoppy for the style.
Aroma is very modest for an I2PA. The appearance and body are more like the style. The sweetness is balanced nicely by the hop crunch. Palate has some grain and some pine needle prick. Dry hopping would help on the front end. Jokes (1455) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 28, 2006
Clear amber body with a fluffy, off-white layer of foam. An interesting nose of pine, caramel, warming alcohol, whole grains and a light toasted element. It’s definitely hoppy but with loads of sweet malt laying underneath. The body is robust and full with a nice heft and lively carbonation. Once in the mouth, things start sweet with malt, caramel and and grains. In the end, the warming alcohol and bitter hops combine to have nice finish. It’s not my favorite Double IPA, but it’s reasonably enjoyable and reminds me of Molyan’s offering. 5000 (6900) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - MAR 26, 2006
Bottle: Dark amber, mahogany tint, moderate off-white foamy head, fairly nice lacing.   Odd spiced cake like aroma, slight alcohol and citrus, minor tea and tobacco leaf.   Smooth malty start, background of citrus rind, not overly bitter at all either.   Semi-sweet, finishing with citrus rind and tea leaf.   Fairly tasty, full bodied but average mouthfeel.   ABV is warming, but not very noticeable.   Not a top contender, but I did enjoy this one.   Fairly clean, and easy to drink.   Thanks SuIIy for the bottle! badgerben (5387) - Blaine, Minnesota, USA - MAR 25, 2006
Dark copper color with a thin head. A massive blast of pine and citrus up front on the nose. These continue into the taste and do not let up at all. The malt base is so-so. It probably has a lot of malt, but the hops really bury it. Thankfully, the hops mix very nicely in this one.
