Awesome four-finger beige head. Very slow to recede. Lumpy lace. The liquor color is dark, dark brown (nearly black). No light shines through.
Relatively mild aroma of dark chocolate and toffee. Not sweet.
Wow, lots of different flavors. The obvious ones of mocha, dark chocolate, light hop and cocoa are present. There are also some unexpected ones: banana bread, dark cherry, and cream. The finish is delicious hop and cocoa. The body coats the palate, yet it is not thick.
This is an exceptional porter. The flavor is so complex and the combination of elements so rich that it is hard to envision a better example of this style. Wow. JackT (71) - Lansing, Michigan, USA - DEC 15, 2009
Pours dark redish brown with a thin tan head. Rich aroma; candy, dark fruit, alcohol. Nice smoked flavor with a strong hint of BACON! What more do you need to say? Excellent beer. trumpetskid (106) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 16, 2012

355ml bottle. Dark brown body with a nice beige head. Aroma is bitter malty with a pleasant hint of acidity (cellarnote). Flavor is a very pleasant mix of bitter chocolate malt and wild yeast. Full body and long finish. imadeadguy (378) - back in NJ!, New Jersey, USA - FEB 22, 2009
12oz.er poured into Duvel tulip. Pour is deep black with minimal dark brown head. Aromas of roasted malts, licorice, dark fruits, and slight coffee. Flavor is strong coffee, roasted malt, chocolate, slight vanilla, a tinge of alcohol and finishing with a little hop hit. Overall a great representation of the style. Easy drinking and enjoyable!

THOUGHTS: I knew nothing about this beer before buying it. I just saw "porter" and picked it up. I either really rally liked or was disappointed by other Arcadia Ales. This was one I really liked. It might be my favorite Arcadia so far. It was very complex and ever changing. It had nice use of smoke, that wasn’t overwhelming, but was definitely a major presence. This one didn’t need too much chilling. The smoke became more prominent as it warmed.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a dark brown that was black in the glass with red highlights and was bottle conditioned. It had an average to large, tan head that mostly diminished, but left good lacing. The aroma was light to moderate roasted malt and cocoa powder, with lighter coffee notes, light to moderate yeast, soy sauce at first and then smoke later. There was also a little sour fruit, BBQ sauce, a little alcohol, and slight liquor. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and lightly bitter; while the finish was slightly sour, sweet and lightly bitter with an average duration. There was smoke, cocoa powder, dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, BBQ sauce, slight soy sauce and sour fruit. The medium body was oily with lightly fizzy carbonation and a light astringent, light alcoholic, slightly metallic and smokey, dry finish. nearbeer (5417) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - JUL 1, 2009
12 oz. Opaque black with a lasting disc of cream tan foam. Coffee, chocolate and light char on the nose. Tastes of coffee, bitter chocolate, charred mesquite and light caramel. Medium-heavy body is smoothly carbonated, chalky and roasty dry, and very drinkable. This is a nice strong porter.

Notes from 3-12-2010 beer rating: The aroma was rich, strong smell of alcohol and hint of smoke. Dark color, with clean appearance. Poured well with good head. Clean, crisp taste with nothing lingering. Very good drinking beer. jkbachman (181) - - MAR 5, 2013
Dry roasted/coffee malt aroma with slight pit fruit esters. Cocoa, dry/burnt coffee, and slight tart finish. A very good porter.
