On tap at Jac Cekolas, portage mi. Dark black pour, offwhite head that's dense and in appearance. Smells of sweet Carmel malts and creamy oats. Smooth mouth feel with little carbonation. Roasted Carmel in the flavor with a touch of bitter, licorice maybe. Finish is laden with spices, allspice or nutmeg. A little dry too.

Pours a dark brown with a foamy tan head. Aroma is chocolate, roast, coffee, caramel, toffee, and some earthy notes. Flavor is chocolate, roast, and toffee. Has a creamy, smooth, light body with a soft mouthfeel. This is okay. DocLock (10970) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 23, 2017
Draft at Craft. Hazy dark brownish pour with tan head. Nose was earthy dark malt, cacao, hops. Tastes dark malty, with notes of cacao, vanilla, nuts, and late hops. Decent, not great. TThumper89 (29) - Otsego, Michigan, USA - FEB 3, 2016
On tap at Arcadia 02/03/16 - Starboard Stout is a unique Irish Oat Malt Stout. Deep black in color, with garnet undertones, it has a robust yet well-balanced chocolatey roasted malt character and a creamy mouthfeel. A subtle and complex hop flavor and aroma is provided by Willamette and Cascade.

Interesting take on a stout.... Very much like a heavy version of a but brown ale. FROTHINGSLOSH (8069) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 21, 2015
Sampled on nitro draft at Pour in Ebensburg this beer poured a black color with a large creamy tan head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was dry, roasty, malty and had a bit of vanilla. The flavor was bitter, dry and roasty with wood, charcoal and a hint of red meat. Long roasty wood and charcoal finsih. Medium body. Meh.

Not a fan of Irish stouts and this one is why. Very malty with a slight malt note on the backbone. Bitter and creamy flavored beer. My least favorite of Kalamazoo beer scene

On tap, poured into an imperial pint glass. The aroma is initially straight raisin, but this tones down a bit to allow some coffee notes to come through with a bit of a smoke and roasted character. It pours a dark, nearly opaque mahogany with w light tan, small suds, medium thin ring and wispy surface. A touch of lace is left on the glass. The creamy and smooth beer has a taste combination of medium sweet and light bitter with a soft fizz carbonation. The medium body contains notes of dry, dark fruit with coffee and a touch of milky caramel. There’s a herbal crescendo at the finish with a coffee ground grittiness. The aftertaste is light with hints of sweet fruit. nimbleprop (8708) - SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA - OCT 31, 2014
20oz pint at The Map Room pours a murky black with ruby edges and some very creamy, off white head. Nose has a very stouty nature to it, chocolate malt balls, some heavy bread notes, a little burnt chaff. Flavor would remind you of fresh St James Gate Guinness, creamy latte, chocolate malt balls, some toasted bread crust. Creamy finish. crossovert (13724) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - APR 6, 2014
Draft. Definitely dryer than the stypical example of the style, rich cocoa and coffee. two7offsuit (448) - Massachusetts, USA - FEB 1, 2014
Pours black with a tan head. Aromas of malt and chocolate. Flavors of chocolate and toffee.
