COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Dubbel, or double, is the second beer in our monastic series. The following flavors are appropriate while explaining this Belgian influenced ale: Fig, chocolate, raisins, rum-like, dates and prunes. However, NONE of these products are in the beer! This is a beautiful harmony between the unique Belgian derived yeast, and the continental malts that make the tongue dance for joy. Short of "pinkies in the air," this is a fine crafted ale that has history as rich as this beer itself. As you sip, imagine yourself on the Belgian and France border, sipping this fine ale as the day’s work in the barley fields comes to a tiring end.

Pour on tap at the brewpub, slightly hazy reddish pour with off white head, aroma brought notes of caramel, dark fruit, raisin, plum into a bit of spice, some yeasty notes into a bit of grass. Taste was a sweet mix of dark fruit, raisin, fig into some spice, yeast, toasted bread with a hint of caramel, slight grass, finishing sweet. Too sweet for my tastes.

draft, as a self-proclaimed dubbel aficionado, this is a good attempt, above average for the american verison but no westy 8, or chimay red at all. Different leagues. This is still characteristically nutty and caramel with a touch of dry smoke on thie finish which i enjoyed.

3.5
sturmthis (1195) - Bavaria, GERMANY - MAR 18, 2015
On draft. Brown with a red hue, one finger off white head. Raisin, figs, dark fruit aroma. Taste isn’t as strong as Belgian versions, but still a pretty good dubbel.
