This dry barrel aged beer pours a dark brown color with the slightest head. Aromas and flavors of big bourbon, grapes, sweetness, some oak and vanilla. Finishes with a slight burn from the booze. mikedR (1561) - Gilbert, Arizona, USA - FEB 22, 2014
Wow, good. Not usually a big barley wine guy. This one is smooth. Heavily malt forward. Beguiling sweetness. Try it if you can!

Clear dark amber pour with small tan head. Aroma of buttery caramel, roasted malts, spices, grapes, faint nuttiness and bourbon. Taste of toffee, vanilla, fruity, slightly nutty, spices and a bourbon presence that compliments this beer excellent. Loved this!! Metallion66 (104) - - FEB 21, 2014
Solid Barlery wine, though I did not get a chance to try the normal version for comparison. More of an English barleywine which is great. Doesn’t have that big hoppy bite to it. Barrel was present, but more on the subtle side in both the aroma and the taste. Smooth and Oaty. Was actualy impressed with how smooth and easy it went down. Darker brown pour, tan head. The barrel treated this one well with a big bourbon punch to do along with the toffee notes and hints of grapes in the regular version. DesertDevil (699) - Arizona, USA - FEB 16, 2014
UPDATED: FEB 20, 2014 Taster at the 2014 Arizona Strong Beer Fest. Pours a dark mahogany. Aroma of very sweet bourbon, caramel malt, and slight grapes. Incredible malty taste of bourbon, vanilla, a hint of oak and indeterminable herbs, and only light grapes. The barrel aging really knocks down the heavy vinous tones of the base brew. A definite improvement on what was already a nice barleywine. BOLTZ7555 (3027) - Phoenix, Arizona, USA - FEB 16, 2014
Sampled @ AZ Strong Beer Fest. Dark copper pour with ruby and burnt tangerine at its core and a razor thin eggshell float. Loads of sweet bourbon, vanilla, and caramel on the nose. Slight candied citrus, bourbon, vanilla, oak, and molasses in the flavor. Sweet but not cloying. Also shows some floral, herbal, and peppery qualities. Complex and decadent. Medium mouthfeel, not at all thick and syrupy. Surprisingly, this one surpassed the Pappy version. More rich and luxurious. JBoan (176) - Arizona, USA - FEB 15, 2014
Dark caramel color with thin off mocha head. Aroma is whiskey! Vanilla, oak, some spicy rye, caramel and sweet English malts. Taste is whiskey up front but let this warm up and it is amazing. Blends well. Great BA Barleywine. Ibrew2or3 (8607) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - FEB 15, 2014
This dry barrel offering is poured up on tap into a squat tulip glass at the Wilderness. It pours with a dark clear amber body that supports a thin white head. The aroma offers big sweet bourbon along with vanilla and sweetened oak wood notes. The aroma just bursts out of the glass where I’m getting little of what is a modest base beer aroma. The taste begins with smooth bourbon notes rolling into sweet vanilla and a nice malt sweetened oak note. Well beneath the barrel treatment lurks faint murmurs of the base beer’s dark fruity ester notes. This could have less barrel contact time for me as the modest smooth supple base beer is nearly lost. The barrel though is smooth sweet goodness.
