COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Peanut Butter Jelly Time Ale Think back to simpler times - when your mom sent you off to school with a PB&J sandwich, and by noon the flavors had all melded into pure comfort food. Well, we recreated that goodness in a beer! This light brown ale is brewed from five different grains, then aged for weeks on raspberries and roasted peanuts. Take a sip, let flavors mingle on your palate, and enjoy our PB&J in a glass.

Hmm, to much jelly and not enough peanut butter. This beers too sweet, can barely pick up on the Brown ale qualities.

Can. My neighbor got two of these in some beer-of-the-month club thing he subscribes to, but hes allergic to peanuts so they got handed off to me. Despite my love for all things raspberry- and peanut butter-related I was sure I would hate this beer, but I was somewhat pleasantly surprised. Cloudy reddish-amber color. Smells like a jar of raspberry preserves. Flavor is mildly fruity, but kind of overwhelmed by peanut butter.... but not the good peanut butter like JIF - more like that Target brand stuff. Its fine - I wouldnt go out of my way to buy it, but Im not pouring it down the sink either. Its interesting if nothing else.

So if you buy a peanut butter and jelly beer, I guess you cant be shocked when your pint tastes exactly like a damned peanut butter and jelly sandwich, right? Brings up the old question: how do you rate a beer that fits its description well but you still dont really like? Hard to feel fair in such a scenario: yes, Catawba Peanut Butter Jelly Time fits the name, offering up a solid dose of peanuts in the nose, maybe a little fruit mixed in as well. And the taste is right in line with the title: peanut butter and raspberry, semisweet and surprisingly restrained. If peanut butter and jelly beer is your thing, then Catawbas got your cherry 57 Chevy. But If youre like me--curious and now a bit regretful--eh. Tastes like peanuts. Tastes like jelly. Doesnt taste much like beer. 3 seems about right.

12 oz bottle. Cloudy amber with an average off-white head. Aroma is of...ummm...peanuts and raspberry jelly. Taste is of raspberries, peanuts, toast, and light earthiness. Very interesting.

Can. The look is a haze, eggshell colored head, and bronze colored. The smell is grape jelly, peanut butter, artificial, raspberry jam. The taste is sweet, peanuts, raspberry, interesting.

Taps hazy copper with a thick and fine-bubbled buff head that leaves generous lacing. Aroma presents notes of, yes, grape jelly and peanut butter, as well as fresh malt. Flavor continues the PB&J tones plus a bready note - and some hops and malt as well. A nice idea, but somehow doesnt quite work. Body is firm and fizzy, while finish is like a bite from a classic PB&J sammich. Well, worth trying to bring back happy childhood memories.

Pour is a murky brown with a small white head. Aroma is a nice fresh raspberry. I dont get much of the peanuts but the strong raspberry makes up for it. Flavor is more of the peanuts and the raspberry is barly noticeable. For a gimmick beer this is fine. The ingredients dont all come together at the same time but separately its as advertised. Raspberry aroma with a peanut flavor.

Pours a murky amber color with an off-white head. looks like muddy water in the glass. Smells like jelly with some mild peanut butter in the background. Tastes like it smells with a slightly tart ending. A solid interesting brew. Not something you want a lot of.

Pours like a murky darker IPA. Nothing about this says brown ale. Aroma is just sweet at first but flavor and aroma soon both hit pbj on white bread dead on. Problem is the nose and flavor are on the weak side, and the body is watery. Pleasant enough, and fun, just a bit weak.
