Vintage 2015 corked and caged 500 ml. bottle. 12.7% ABV per the label. Pours a medium thick, well retained ivory head with extensive lacing, over a slightly hazy copper (SRM 15) body........nose is heavy dried fruits, whiskey, moderate toasted malts, minimal hop spice......taste is sweet with heavy dried fruits including raisin, fig tones, lighter toffee/caramel, brown sugar, whiskey with rye spice notes, light vanilla, mild oak, hints of tobacco, slight nuttiness, finishing with light hop spice and bitterness......mouth feel, thick chewy body, alcohol warmth present, moderate carbonation with slight acid tingle. The higher ABV means the recipe has changed slightly. The heavy sweet body hides the high alcohol nicely making this a dangerous beverage. This is utterly delicious and well worth the higher price. The complexity of the base beer, increased by the barrel, make this fun to deconstruct and a wonderful winter beer to help survive the cold. BJCP 9/3/17/4/8

From a bomber. Pours cloudy, brown-maroon and makes small tan head. No lacing. Almost like a murky cognac in appearance. Aroma is of rye whiskey, dark fruits, and caramel. Tastes like a Belgian quad, very sweet and very boozey. A nice change for the bastard brand. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle: The aroma consists of light-moderate caramel, toffee, vanilla, mild fruit, whiskey, and a hint of smoke. It pours a hazy orangish-brown with a one finger off-white head that fades to a thick film. The flavor starts with moderate caramel, toffee, and fruit. The finish light-moderate aged citrus hops, vanilla, whiskey/rye, and oak. Its medium bodied with mild carbonation and a soft mouthfeel. Overall, I think the Southern Charred version is far superior.

Shared bomber, snifters. Hazy, murky. Pleasant whiskey booze aroma. Barrel aging seems to have mellowed the arrogance of the bastard.

Pretty good - caged and cork, with no sound at all or pressure when I removed it, I was a bit worried. No need for worry. Very murky brown orange stuff, with a fine dotted lace, sparse, and a tiny bit of haze on top. Nose is heavy caramel, very barley wine like, a bit of dark fruit. On tip of tongue this is tingly, then a bit warming, and you feel the booze, a bit hot going down. A sipper.

love it. The Bastard is tamed a bit with the barrel aging. Overall taste Id describe as coconut with bourbon. I really enjoy it, though it doesnt have the hop asplosion youd expect from something with the Bastard label. Love it a lot tho

Bottle cork and caged. Lots of caramel and malt and sweetness. Maybe some subtle whiskey, but not dominant at all. Arrogant Bastard/Bastard up a notch.

Pretty sweet up front. Big n boozy. Spice, yes, and still a touch of hops, but definitely more malty and sweet. More barrel presence than the 12 oz bourbon bastards for sure.
