A pretty damn good beer. Is a biter beer to say the least.... but MMMMM... its good River (25) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - SEP 15, 2006
This one is a dark burgundy color with a white head. Light aromas of hops, malts, coffee, wet grass, and pine are present. The flavor is sharp and slightly hoppy with a mellow coffee overtone and a bitter finish that will kick your ass. dmradus (227) - Ithaca, New York, USA - SEP 14, 2006
Pours a ruddy copper with a full and soapy-white head that laces all the way down the glass. There is one word to describe this beer, as to my tastes of it: grapefruit. The nose is heavily citrus hop, predominately grapefruit with hints of pine. The taste is obviously strongly hoppy - detectable once again through a huge grapefruit explosion. But, wait, is that malt I sense? Yes! - there is some malt lurking somewhere here - perhaps caramel but I’m not positive - adding some semblance of balance to a beer that probably didn’t even need any. Bitterness is off-the-charts and stays with you. unclemattie (4357) - Georgia, USA - SEP 14, 2006
UPDATED: JAN 17, 2007 Dark copper color. Off white, khaki head. Dominate malt aroma. caramel and a slight citrus zest finish in the aroma. very bitter, leather, alcohol, raisin, toast, Bitter from the first sip. pine, citrus, The texture of this brew is complex. Thick, creamy, chewy, yet very refreshing. Hop monster bitterness in the finish. Very bitter beer not for beginners. Good more for me! Deep mahogany with off-white head which holds well. Aroma is carmel and citrus. Very much hops and citrus with a bit of carmel.

Nice start, smokey citrus flavor, but the taste turns flat at finish. Maybe bad bottle. drmatt (51) - THE LOU, Missouri, USA - SEP 8, 2006
this tastes like a freshly squeezed grapefruit added to malt. big and citrusy, i like that though. JJClark (551) - Roscoe, Illinois, USA - SEP 7, 2006
Bottle from trade with realale420. Thanks Brian! This is an awesome brew. Pours a rich mahogany color with a nice off white head. Leave plenty of nice lacing. Aroma of hops and caramel. Taste is wonderfully hoppy and with some citus overtones. Great all around beer! donrajin (233) - Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, USA - SEP 7, 2006
A great beer no doubt. It has plenty of flavor to satisfy you. A very aggressive beer that I only like one or two of. Very hoppy for style. I believe it is a little unbalanced. I think due to the alcohol difference, the double bastard is better balance. beerabill (14) - Silverdale, Washington, USA - SEP 6, 2006
This is a great American beer. I was stationed in Germany for a year, and this is better than anything I tasted there.
Bottle: Dark brown color, nice very light tan head. Smells sweet carmel. Tastes fantastic, bottle description is right it is "sophisticated" smooth bitter carmel hoppiness. Rolls down very smooth. I will be visiting this brewery on the next visit down to SOCAL. Superb.
