This is an aggressive beer. You probably wont like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth.

Julios Spring Beer Festival. Pour of orange fringed mahogany, topped with tan. Wicked rich aroma of fresh Cascade hop dust and oranges. Destructive hop flavor. Theres a massive glowering freshness of squeezed navel oranges and ruby red grapefruit. This all runs over a current of sweet creamy malt and heavenly darker sugars. Finishes with some warming creamy hop sugars. Theres no denying this beer is fantastic!

Bottle - Pours deep dark amber with thin white head. Aroma is hoppy with a malty sweet touch. Palate is medium in body with a moderately thick silky texture. Flavor is extremely hoppy with a nice touch of alcohol and a grapefruit citrus follow through that lingers for a bit. Overall this is an excellent strong ale........beer this good has a right to be arrogant!

One of the very few beers where the presentation and the setup impact the experience. Pours rich brown with a dark tan head. Complex flavor opens with a touch of malt sweetness and follows with aroma (but not the bitterness... I dont understand all the "this is so bitter" comments) of hops, dried fruit, citrus notes, and some nuts (almonds?). Coffee/chocolate tones are largely nonexistent. A delightful beer to enjoy in good company with food and conversation.

bottle. A nice borwn color with an almost greenish head. A very hoppy bite. Almost sweet with a quick kick in the tongue. Finishes very clean and almost dry. An excellent beer.

This beer kicks ass. Period, dot. If you are a binge drinker, forget about it. It will tear your stomach to shreds the next day. Arrogant Bastard is what beer drinking is about. Full flavor, great taste and even complements traditional bar foods. You are probably not worthy so quit salivating. Any poor ratings on this site for this beer are simply posers and not true connoisseurs.

A must-drink for hops lovers! Not as much hops as, say, Bells Two-Hearted, but still plenty of hops to go around. Malty undertones. Pours a dark reddish color with a tannish head.

I only recently returned to serious homebrewing and beer enthusiasm after close to a decade of basically settling for what I could get at the local Trader Joes. While plenty familiar with the old-school, west-coast originals, I was thus way behind the times when it comes to the great second-generation (1990s) craft brewers, not the least of which is Stone. The whole gargoyle motif and "arrogant bastard" tude never really did it for me, but Id read so many good things--and more than that, Im a proud SoCal guy wholl firmly believes in thinking globally but drinking locally--that I finally had to get with the times and try this stuff. Bottom line: good but not great. Im just an old-school guy, and the over-the-top, IBU-flooded bitterness is just not for me. I love the fact that a Stone exists and that theyre willing to push the envelope, but for me, the defining factor of a great beer is balance and harmony. While Arrogant Bastard offers that in its wonderfully inviting, strong but not overpowering, aroma--sweet and citrusy, that I pegged as grapefruit at first but then became more mango-like, with a very pleasant floral hop background--the flavor is just too bitter. As the beer warms, the complexity begins to come out in the background, but its still dominated by the raw, even harsh, bitterness of the excessive hops--kind of like a good piece of music being overpowered by the bass being turned up way too high. If only the bittering hops were turned down, allowing some of the sweetness of the malt to come through, this would truly be a great beer. Or maybe it really is a great beer, and Im just "not worthy".

big malt flavors balanced by great hoppiness. pours the color of burgundy wine but with a very good, lasting head. Nice citrus tones mixed in. Predominently hoppy so a must for the hop lovers. Very injoyable beer. Cant beat the label(s) either. A must try.

UPDATED: MAR 25, 2009 Wow, this is a beer. Yum. Stone seemed to have my tastes in mind when they concocted this luscious elixir. 22 oz. bottled poured out clear deep amber in color with a tall light tan head. An assertive malt and hop aroma that beckons the imbiber to go ahead, take a swig. The taste is delicious sweet roasted malts cut perfectly with high alpha hops (Chinook-type). This is a full body, full flavor beer that manages an excellent balance. An abundance of lacing was left clinging to the glass. Im dinging the Overall Rating by 2 since they dont sell Stone beer in Florida. A re-rate will occur once I can get this locally. Come on Stone, give me my ABA!!!!!!
