This is an aggressive beer. You probably wont like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth.

Poured from a bottle. Absolutely gorgeous beer. Dark red with a very thick off white head. The head reminds me of the scummy foam you see in poluted rivers, I mean that in a good way, it compliments the color perfectly. The aroma has hints of vanilla and cinnamon with a solid hop backing. Tastes of pine, plenty of hops, a little cinnamon and an underlying sweetness that wraps things up nicely. Decent mouthfeel, stays on your palate for a good long while after finishing it. Being stuck in a 6% ABV state, this is one of those beers that I always wanted to try. I was not dissapointed. Im a sucker for packaging and this just might be the funniest description ever.

UPDATED: SEP 25, 2007 A good introduction to the world of Stone--it starts here for many. Well-balanced hops and malt characters (more malty than hoppy) with a nice alcohol backbone. Lightly toasted grain flavors mingle with earthy American hops,

Draught @ Brouwers Cafe pours dark amber, very red, medium off-white head, light carbonation, with attractive lacing. Malty nose, somewhat strong phenols. Sweet malty goodness up front, strong, with a slight hop twang. I used to think this beer was overly hopped, but not anymore. Clean finish, smooth, warming... and big on the palate. Body and mouthfeel are very enjoyable. Some actual citrus on the finish, along with a big dose of malts with that underlying hop background. Tasty!

UPDATED: MAR 28, 2006 This beer has every right to be arrogant. From its beautiful amber color to the bitter, bite that never ends, this beer is great. The flavor comes out at a warmer temp, so enjoy cool, not cold.

UPDATED: SEP 30, 2007 Dark amber with a creamy tan head. Smells hoppy but surprisingly has a lot of roasty malt flavor. I thought Id like this one more than I did. Still a good brew though. Might drink accasionally. Not sure the 98 rating is justified though.

UPDATED: MAY 2, 2005 Finally got around to rating this little gem. Pours a dark brown amber, with a foamy lingering head. Strong fruity and spicy hop aroma with a biscuity malt backing. Full body, aggressive from nose to finish. Seemingly super chewy mouthfeel caves in before barelywine levels of chewiness are reached. Spritely hop astringency matched with enough syrup malt character to keep everything assertive, but in check. Showcases the Stone yeast, which seem to posess a low enough attenuation to leave a certain unconverted fruity sweetness, despite the high gravity. Perhaps some byproduct esters of the yeast add to this effect, which is noticable in all of Stones beers.

Strong full-flavored dark amber and strong hop character. This is one of the best beers in the world bar none.

This is probably my favorite American strong ale. This beer pours a very dark amber color with ruby highlights. Monstrous head with really good head retention as well. This is one burley bastard that will kick your palate in the sack... I love it! The flavor is quite complex bringing everything from dark fruits to wood, heck I can even taste coffee in this bastard. This is one of those beers where everyone can taste something a little different.

Appearance is a solid, copperish red.....unlike any other beer Ive seen. Healthy light tan head with good lacing that lasted until the bottom of the glass. Aroma is grassy and piney.....very nice. Mouthfeel is medium...coats your mouth nicely. Flavor has a caramel, woody start with a slightly bitter alcohol finish. I would highly recommend this.

This is not my favorite big beer, but it is recommended. Nice as your first or only beer of the night. Dark and nutty, this beer is very aggressive. There are hints of cinnamon at first taste. You can slightly taste the alcohol, but its not overpowering. Smells great and malty and looks beautiful, with a nice head. This is a cool beer. You should check it out, since its so affordable. I got it for $4.99.
