(Bottle 65 cl) Beautiful and very red coloured, clear beer with a creamy head leaving a sophisticated lacework. Roasted, nutty aromas. Lots of roasted malt and caramel. And then of course lots of dry hops. 290705

UPDATED: DEC 16, 2012 Growler. Well, I really liked this beer. Pours a rich, amber-red with a strong, white head. Nice, hoppy aroma with strong pine notes. Some detectable malts on the nose. Flavor is a big, cocky blend of elements. Heavy on the hops, this beer rings with citrus and piney, resiney flavors. Underneath, some good, earthy malts give the brew some considerable depth. Slight bread flavor adds to the medium to large body. Lingering, mildy bitter aftertaste. A great session ale for heavy drinkers.

4/3/2010 Update: Had a pint last night at The Pony Bar. I just marveled at the intense balance. Potent, deep sweet flavors of dark fruits a malt, right alongside some outrageous hoppiness. Wild stuff.

4/17/2010 Update: Had some this boy on cask. Yep, it’s still great.

Bottle @ Aarhus tasting. Clear amber with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel and moderate hoppy - citrus. Flavor is quite sweet and rather bitter. Dry and rather bitter finish. 171013

Dark copper color; creamy head. The aroma is malty, hoppy but not fruity as expected; some roasted malt. Full body, very good malt, nutty. Immediately the bitterness takes over, for a bold final (again, not particularly fruity nor aromatic).

Keg at Stone @ San Diego Airport, 22/04/14. 12th most rated beer on RB and one I’ve had a few times over the years but with an hour or so to kill before my flight to Maui (via SFO) on a day of limited ticks -there was only one outcome!!! Rich amber with a good sized beige head that retains well. Nose is caramel, light spice, candied fruit peel, dark fruits, toffee. Taste comprises caramel, fruit loaf, dark fruit rind, spice, light booze but very well in check. Medium bodied, smooth on the palate, very light alcohol and hoppy tinges in the close. Decent strong.

UPDATED: MAR 12, 2012 22 oz. bottle, pours dark golden amber with a moderate head. Fantastic aroma of maple syrup, caramel malt, brown sugar and bitterness. Flavour follows accordingly. Very nice beer, though a bit unbalanced towards the hops.

Bottle. Nice head with good duration. Color is amber. Aroma and taste are roast malt, wood, caramel, bitter hops and has a long bitter finish. Nice.

Bottle from Belmont Station, Portland. Ruby colour with lasting tan head. Sour hop aroma is lovely. Malts are sour coffee. Sourish in mouth, astringent hop on end. Cats pee aroma. Rich in mouth, but slightly sour as well and then this astringency cuts in. This is more a state of mind than anything else. Take bits that are attractive, sour, astringent and here you have something arrogant. It seems to say "Here I stand with strong statements of taste and knock me down if you dare." Smells of a yeasty English bitter. Yeasty like Harveys Sussex Best Bitter. Some fullness in mouth. Yeah, I liked it.

UPDATED: APR 30, 2003 The best I've ever had brought some wonderful citrusy, leafy hops overtop of the crystal malt. This trend carried through the earthy body. If it's not so fresh, and doesn't have a fresh, rich hop aroma, it gets dominated by that malt and is not nearly as impressive nor enjoyable.
