This is an aggressive beer. You probably wont like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth.

Bomber. Poured with small tan head, nice dark color and plenty of chill haze like a homebrew.Nice hop to malt balance, not as "thick as it looks. Head gone in seconds but laced nicely. The hops end up dominating the palate when all is said + done. Worth the $4.50 at the CandleWick in Buckingham, Pa

The label said that I probably wouldnt like this beer, and it was right. Very hoppy and bitter, but it isnt as overbearing as some APAs.

Its true. Im not worthy. I bought this beer with very high expectations. Bottle pours deep cloudy amber, with almost no crown at all. Smell is good, with hints of slightly piney hop amid woody earthiness. Taste is the deal breaker. What is hinted at in the aroma knocks you back in the mouthfeel. Hops aplenty gives you a kick in the teeth with medium sweetness and a bit of citrus following. Bitterness sticks with you for a while. I dont think Ive had a beer this thick and hoppy at the same time since I tried Smuttys impy stout in the big beer series. Bottom line: Im not the guy that disdains everything that someone else likes so he can feel superior and elitist. Im the guy who appreciates the artwork but probably wouldnt hang it on his wall. Thats how I feel about this beer. Its a tremendous work in brewing, but its too much for me, you arrogant bastard.

UPDATED: OCT 10, 2008 Very dark beer that has a great taste. It is a little bitter but its great taste makes up for it. Excellent

Very good on the nose, malts mixed with piney, resiny hops, and some caramel. Large off-white head that has staying power and knows how to lace a glass, dark amber with ruby highlights. medium+ body with a bitter, dry aftertaste. The taste is well balanced between the malts and the hops. A very nice beer.

Bottle. Deep amber color, gorgeous tan head that clung strongly to my glass. Great aroma. Sweet and malty, hoppy, some smoky flavor too, fits together well. I cant taste the alcohol. Aftertaste keeps everything melded together very well, wonderfully smooth for a beer this strong. The Double Bastard is certainly superior, but Ill gladly drink this any chance I get.

So, you arrogant SOB...think I lack the taste and sophistication? Well, screw you! This pours a rich red with a determinedly prominent pillowy head. A malty nose that picks up hints of yeast and sweetness. Theres very little hop presence noted. The flavour is soft and malty at first then the presence of the hops comes through. Its like a boxer leading an opponent....malt feint, malt feint, the pow! Hops! The alcohol is nicely hidden and there is a stellar lingering taste that grabs the tongue and whips it into a knot. Arrogant, indeed.
