This is an aggressive beer. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth.

Had this on tap. It is strong. Strong in color, aroma and taste. It was dark red with a blend of rich caramel, toast and bitterness in both the aroma and flavor. It lingered and remained bitter. I like this as a sipping beer.

12oz bottle. Pours mahogany brown with a thick beige head. Aroma is pine, toffee, and lots of malt. Taste is very hoppy (pine and earth) matched with lots of malt (toffee, toast, caramel, hints of dough, etc.) with some fruits and a touch of metal as well. Light-medium body. Moderate carbonation. Creamy mouthfeel.

From 473ml can. Poured with rich, inch high head with great retention. Aroma was of metallic berries, not good. Aroma is more caramel malt as it warms. Taste is of malt with a little sweetness, then strong bitterness in the back end. Not that impressed

500 ml can as Stone Berlin. Served in tulip. Pours blood red, with big fluffy and firm head. Fantastic look. Bitter grapefruit aroma and some other tropical fruits, elderflower, some dark cherry, some metallic and earthy notes. Heavy hoppy bitterness. Alcohol perfectly hidden. Soft carbonated, full body. Bitter finish. Palatable. Long lasting aftertaste. This beer has character.

Aroma poco fuerte. Es mejor el sabor que el olor. Una verdadera cerveza artesanal. Mucha espuma. Fuerte sensación de malta. El punto justo de amargura. Muy recomendable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: AUG 6, 2017 I haven’t had this in a few moons had to rate after reading blueruin’s rate below. With BJCP style guidelines, this was not as impressive as previously remembered, but nevertheless it has been a huge gateway ale for the Americans over many years. No esters but raisins aroma with bitter musk. Appearance is spot on, medium tan head. Taste is low malt, licorice, even as warmed. A high bitter hop but a good bittersweet crisp finish. Mouthfeel was spot on and the overall impression was an ale that was unbalanced and uncomplimentary in the hops and malts, an arrogant bastard.

EU version. Can. Musty aroma, murky unpleasant tang like an old pub or wet carpet. This is like a beefed up version of an English brown ale, and for me it just doesn’t work. The US version must be better than this, or there is some bizarre hype going on - this is just one-note clumsy bitterness.
