Leighton (21083) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - APR 16, 2017
Can at the hotel in Tokyo. Pours a fetchingly clear yellow-gold with a fluffy, pure white head. The nose has simple pale grains, cereal. Light to medium sweet flavour with a lot of crunchy cereal, a little buttered biscuit, cornbread, white bread, almost no hops, maybe a little straw, faint citrus notes. Light bodied with average carbonation. Finishes with more sweet white bread, biscuits, white sugar, minimal bitterness. It’s easy enough to drink, but could be crisper.

GoufCustom (1977) - HONG KONG - JUN 14, 2016

500 ml can bought at 7-Eleven on Lock Road, Tsim Sha Tsui.

Piss golden yellow colour; One and a quarter finger head with soapy white foam which lasts for 90 seconds; Fair sticky lacing and fizzy carbonation; Sweet aroma of moderate malt, with floral, sugar, grain spirit, dry biscuits, light lemon and light grass; Close to light sweet taste of very light malt, strong barley grains and spirit, light floral, soda, molasses, dry bread, lemon, moderate bitter hops and light grass; Mid to light body. Thin and dry palate; Mouth feel is very thin malt in a thin body. Strong grainy spirit dominates for a dry, biscuity feel. Minimal characters otherwise, with low floral and light sweetness. Light lemon to round. Okay… Hoppiness is with floral, light lemon and light grass in nose and taste; Bitteness is light to moderate for a lasting, fairly light astringent dry grainy finish; Quite dry after taste. Pretty easy to mouth.

Comments: So this is the first of Asahi’s Clear series, and as a Happoshu this is not bad after all: no pissy smell, no awful chemicals or sweetness, just grainy alcohol taste in slight excess. Thre’s some fair light touches of floral hoppiness to top. Not quality stuff, but drinkable.
