Not bad drink from a can. Quite OK in aroma, although bit sweet. Nice taste. (Tokyo 201707) douglas88 (9834) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JUL 16, 2017
16 ounce can. Listed as Houjou only. Pours a bright orange color with a large white head. A light bready earthy head. Sweet, corn, more bready malts. Fairly drinkable, pretty solid cheap beer. faroeviking (11389) - Chupando chellas es como ellas, FAROE ISLANDS - MAR 4, 2017

350 ml can bought at YATA in MOKO, Mong Kok.
Clear pissy golden colour; Three-quarter finger head and soapy white foam which fades in 30 seconds; Fair sticky lacing with active carbonation;
Quite pungent aroma of malt, with grains, rice, faint floral, sugar, light bread, lemon and light grass; Medium sweet taste of fairly light malt, with faint orange notes, floral, sugar, bread, strong herbs, lemon, quite strong bitter hops / extracts and grass; Mid to light body. Very slick palate; Mouth feel is fair maltyness in a slightly thick background. Malt taste is pretty empty, feels like a Happoshu but not quite. Adjunct rice is almost non-existent, instead floral with orangey notes are omnipresent. Sweetness is medium but not cloying, being overwhelmed by very herbal, bitter and unpleasant hop extract. Strong lemon to round. Weird… Hoppiness is faint floral, lemon and light grass in nose. Orange notes, floral, strong herbs, lemon and grass in taste; Bitterness is very strong, extract-like for a lasting, very astringent bitter-sweet finish; Slightly Dry after taste. Sweet and very bitter to mouth.
Comments: Unlike the pleasantly-tasted and low-hopped Dry Premium “Iritate Koku no Premium” from last year, this Houjou’s ain’t dry, tastes thick but the malt went AWOL, with strong floral and odd orange notes ended rather poorly with super bitter hop extract. Pretty artificial and all the strong parts just don’t add up. Bearable but once is enough.
Asahi Dry Premium Houjou 6.5%
The classic deep gold of a macro with a soapy head of foam. The aroma isn't half-bad: bready, sweet, a dab of spice but if smells a little too sweet for me.
The taste is kind of middle of the road but with a decent mouthfeel and a good dryness in the finish.
The initial flavor is that slick syrupy sweetness I associate with macro-lagers but then the lightly bitter and very dry character kicks in which saves this beer from getting cloying. It's alright though I don't really see why this needed to be 6.5%, it could just as easily been 5%.

I must be totally retarded for still picking up cans of that mediocre "Premium" series. This one is just a boozier and sweeter version of the usual release, naughty astringent finish, total waste of water, I should just blame myself for trying it :( petewhitley (570) - Nagoya, JAPAN - APR 23, 2016
UPDATED: NOV 23, 2016 toast, cereal, citrus, amber, light sweetness, lightly bitter, medium body, bitter. Malty and sweet aroma, smells a bit too sweet (apple juice comes to mind). Brief sweetness followed by bitter orange. Well balanced citrus and bitter finish. Rather heavy and filling. Hides the 6.5% a.b.v. well. maekchu (4184) - Hirakata, JAPAN - APR 21, 2016
Can. Thin sweetish malty nose. Clear dark orange/amber color, thin head, fat bubbles. Light sweet fruity initial, with some citrus. Bittering hits rather quickly, along with the alcohol. Finish is somewhat dry and bitter. Medium body. A touch fat featured for adjunct stuff. Rough sort of character. KyotoLefty (10931) - Kyoto, JAPAN - APR 15, 2016
Can from the super market. Deep gold with orange tints, clear, tall, fine head. Nose has a bit of citrus / orange, and very thin malts. Flavor is lemony, dry, thin, ok bitterness. Not much malt character, though the strength gives a bit of body and taste to this "dry" style. bit boozy too.
