grass, earthy, golden, hazy, white foam, lightly bitter, medium body, lively, bitter. Slightly more bitter, slightly heavier Asahi Super Dry. Paired with a fine sashimi dinner, near perfect fit. On it’s own, a tad boring with unearned bitterness. Seems to be aimed squarely at seafood restaurants.

UPDATED: DEC 12, 2015 2015.03.08 (bottle): This one is Super Dry with slightly more attention paid to the ingredients. I wish it would do a bit more, be less boring.

2015.12.13 (can): Thick with malt, this is top tier lager from the big guys. Not great aroma or palate, and the aftertaste could use some work.

On tap in a bar in Tokyo. Reckon I’d struggle to tell this apart from any other unmemorable glass of tasteless Asahi. The best I can really say is that it isn’t unpleasant.

Westkyoto77 (640) - Kyoto, JAPAN - SEP 29, 2013
Draught. Bright gold, thick creamy head. Aromas of grass, thin spice, paper. No character whatsoever- perhaps created to rival Heartland in the "non-intrusive beer to pair with quality food" category. But gassier than Heartland, and not as flavorful. Looks classy, but as with many things in Japanese society, appearances can be deceptive.

CH-303 (2386) - Fribourg, SWITZERLAND - JUL 11, 2013
Appearance: Yellow, clear. Little head.
Aroma: Some light fruit, hops and malt.
Taste: Nice, refreshing hops and malt. Nothing special, really.
Info: 500ml bottle, 9/6-2013

Draught at American Grill Park Hyatt, Tokyo. Clear golden colour with a white head. Weak hops, malt aroma. Weak malt flavour.

Asahi do the plain, ’barely there’ thing better than anyone else. Soft, watery, light on flavour, made for drinking with high class food, when the beer is all but an accompaniment much like a glass of water.

dalekliz (926) - New Jersey, USA - NOV 8, 2012
Can. Pours a clear gold with a bubbly white head. Aroma is crisp and yeasty, with malt, grass, and a hint of citrus. Taste of grassy yeast, malt, and a hint of hops. Lingering sharpness that fades. Decent.

maekchu (4069) - Hirakata, JAPAN - JUN 22, 2012
Can. Grassy. Sweet, and bit full in the malt profile for this style. Clear, golden yellow, Lazy carbonation. Grassy flavors, some cereal, metallic, with a light bitterness in the aftertaste. Medium body. Not bad and not great.
