chinchill (5451) - South Carolina, USA - JUL 24, 2017
Served on tap at brewery in 2011 (from notes).
A - Clear light amber with a generous off-white head; visible coarse carbonation. Head has good retention.
T - I can see why a previous reviewer mistook this for an IPA: It’s fairy hoppy for a PA, with enough malt to emerge in the background. This brew reminded me of Sierra Nevada PA in appearance and taste. It is crisp and dry, with a lasting and earthy hop finish.
S: rather subtle and earthy. More aroma from the hops than from malts.
O - outstanding APA. Working from memory, I think it is probably on par (or better) with Sierra Nevada, and slightly more flavorful. 4.5 as a APA. Dogbrick (14389) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - JUL 22, 2015
Sample at the brewpub. Pale orange-gold color with a medium thin white head that recedes steadily to an outer ring. Strings of lace. Aroma of fruit, hops and grainy malt. Light-bodied with flavors of citrus, grassy hops and malt. The finish is mildly bitter with a short citrusy hops aftertaste. Decent overall. ben4321 (6900) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - JAN 20, 2015
Location: Draft at Asheville Pizza and Brewing Company (Merrimon Ave), 1/3/15
ramboraffe (2311) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - OCT 18, 2014
Aroma: This beer has a light malty aroma, with some light hops
Appearance: It pours a cloudy darker orange color, with a beige head, and mid-heavy lace
Flavor: The flavor is along the same lines, with a light sweet and light bitterness balance
Palate: The body is decent, with a solid mouthfeel, and a clean finish
Okay overall, but it ends up being on the poorer side within the style. Not bad, not good, just decent. Reminds me of Amsterdam not at all (a.k.a. - I don’t understand the name.)
On tap at brewpub. Hazy red golden with white head. Smell is light grain and sweet malty with hoppy pine and floral. Taste is caramel malty with hoppy pine, grapefruit and floral. Dry with medium bitterness and medium carbonation. jandd1983 (4720) - Wentzville, Missouri, USA - JUN 7, 2014
Sampled at the brewpub. It poured a slightly hazy copper color with a white head. The aroma was of malts and some citrus hops. The taste was of malts, some toast and a bitter citrus finish.
b3shine (9339) - Indiana, USA - JUN 2, 2014
Draft to taster at the Coxe Ave brewpub. Looks good; a very slightly hazy golden orange with eggshell head. Smells of hops and pale malt; a little sweeter than I’d prefer though. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. Alright. Cybercat (6430) - Georgia, USA - MAY 23, 2014
Pours a clear amber with a decent ivory head. Aroma is not strong, but has malty and fruit opponents. Malty flavor is a bit fruity. Texture has typical fizz and thickness. Fair to middling but worthy. woodychevy (874) - - APR 2, 2014
Decent, but not my favorite. Pours a nice deep orange color with a decent head. Taste is pretty full on malts and hops with a decent balance. Think the mouthfeel sort of threw me off on this one. Really full and oily- just seems too big for the style of beer. Or more than I was expecting. Definite IPA flavors with grapefruit and pine and caramel. Decent. Would try again knowing what to expect.
Shag (3071) - Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA - OCT 11, 2013
This poured an amber color with a white head. The aroma contains some citrus and caramel. The flavor is slightly bitter with a citrus presence. There is some caramel and dark fruits in the background. Overall a nice session beer. BarleyandVine (56) - Arlington, Virginia, USA - FEB 26, 2013
Beer #2 at Asheville Brewing. Great cascade aroma with a subtle maltiness. The hop flavor paired with the Munich malt backbone makes this a tasty brew. The residual bitterness lingers a bit after the malt subsides.
