Hey! Wow! I tried this beer a few months ago, but I was too lazy to get the information in order to add it to the RareBeer database (Thanks Walter!) This was one of the first beers I drank after turning 21 this year. And being from Asheville, the APC is a primary source of booze for many college students such as myself. This is a great beer. Honestly, I think I like it better than the Shiva, although the Shiva is a classic APC beer... What more can I say? Next time you’re at the Asheville Pizza Company, try the Shiva first, but then try the Red Light if it’s available. This is a great ale. Banzai!!! Appearance: Hazy orange with a foamy, white head. Decent retention and great lacing.
Aroma: Slight pine notes, a little biscuit. Fairly straight forward.
Taste: Light biscuit notes from the malt side, Herbal, grass, and pine notes from the hops. Nice back bitterness.
Palate: Medium carbonation with a medium-light, dry mouthfeel.
Overall: This one seemed to have some alt characteristics to me. Still, a pretty decent brew.
Rebuy: If I happen to stop by the brewery I wouldn’t mind having another one of these. blipp (9689) - La Mesa, California, USA - JAN 13, 2012
Draft. Pours amber orange with a white head. Citric hoppy aroma with a hint of pine and sweet malts. The flavor has floral hops, a hint of marijuana, and sweet malts. Not bad. PaperKnife (82) - - MAY 29, 2012
Draft at the brewpub. Orange with a white foamy head. Floral, citrus aroma. Citrus, caramel, grassiness. walter (359) - Staunton, Virginia, USA - JUL 30, 2005
Draft, Asheville Pizza and Brewing Co., Asheville NC. Medium golden color. Slight hops and sweet malts on the nose. Medium body with mild bitter hop flavor and even keeled maltiness. Crisp finish. The commercial description is pretty well right-on. I lean toward the highly hopped and alcohol-sweet IPAs, which this is not; but it’s a fine brew in its own right.

on tap, pours and cloudy amber, sweet beer, sweet on the front, with mild bitterness on the finish... a good grab.. decaturstevo (6343) - decatur, Tennessee, USA - SEP 19, 2007
On tap at APBC. A slightly hazed deep amber pour. An aroma of light hops a bit of sweet malt. The flavor follows suit with a good bitter. A slight sourness kept me from rating it a bit higher. A decent palate just a tad thin but carbonation was good. A decent offering as well. aracauna (3674) - Georgia, USA - JUL 10, 2008
This isn’t an IPA, but then the brewer does’t call it one. It should probably be listsed as American pale ale like it’t described in the description. Slighty toasted bread malt is balanced by a nice bitterness, but the aroma is a bit weak. unclemattie (4406) - Georgia, USA - NOV 12, 2009
On tap @ Asheville Pizza.
Light amber color. White head. Sweet toasted malt aroma. Flavor is a bit of toffee. Nice bitterness, a touch of honey, toasted malt.
