On tap at Brasserie Métropolitain (Ottawa, ON). Pours an opaque, black body with a thick, lasting beige creamy head. Decent malty aroma with some vanilla and roasty notes. Taste is well balanced and carries nutty, vanilla, chocolate, and roasted cereals notes. Ends with a good, somewhat dry bitter/woody finish. Enjoyable. Poured a thick creamy average size head and has a very dark brown appearance with red highlights. Thick dirty lacing. Aromas of nuts, roasted malts. Nice variety of malty flavours, nuts, coffee. The vanilla flavour is a bit faint but just enough. Leaves a nice lingering sweet aftertaste. Smooth astringent mouthfeel as well as a warming sensation. Pretty good overall. Sampled on draught at the Metropolitan Brasserie in Ottawa. Very dark brown with a tan head. Rich aroma and a taste of roasted malts, coffee and vanilla. Long and pleasantly bitter finish. Complex, but a little sweet and not particularly full-tasting. A very drinkable and well-balanced beer with lots of character. ametras (1685) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 7, 2015
On tap at Tennessy Willems. Black with a creamy tan head. Flavors are dark chocolate, cafe latte, vanilla, maple syrup, caramel and roasted malts with chalky and nutty notes. Medium body, soft carbonation, smooth texture. KansaiBeerLvrs (5249) - Kyoto, JAPAN - AUG 18, 2014
On tap at the Ottawa Beerfest. It is pitch black with a thick tan head. It is made with vanilla beans soaked in bourbon which gives it a soft vanilla + cocoa nose. The taste is roasty oak, vanilla, toasty, chocolate, smooth bodied & exceptionally balanced. A stand out of my second day at the Ottawa beerfest.

On tap at the National Capital Craft Beer Festival in Ottawa. Dark brown body, small chocolate nitro head with good retention. Aroma of coffee, condensed milk, dark vanilla chocolate and coffee. Tasty of burned rubber, well done toast, condensed milk. Smooth, silky and flavourful. Jayseppi (159) - Ontario, CANADA - JUL 12, 2014
Was really impressed with this one. It could have been that it was the first decent beer after a night of mediocre ones, but definitely more than I expected. Black with a 1/4 inch of tight mocha head. Roast and vanilla aromas. Silky mouth feel. Very creamy. Very well balanced between bitter and sweetness in the taste and the vanilla shines through well. Not much of an after taste. A pleasant surprise. BreWedge (546) - goose bay, Newfoundland, CANADA - JAN 17, 2014
On tap @ Murray Street Ottawa. Pours an opaque dark brown with a thick, creamy, mocha head. Aromas are roasted coffee, dark chocolate, subtle vanilla. Taste is dominated by bitter coffee, a touch of molasses. Full bodied, heavy carbonation, and a long bitter finish. Overall, taste was disappointing relative to the promise from the smell. Smell was reminiscent of the coffee flavoured Starbucks bottle drinks without the heavy sweetness but the coffee ground flavour was overpowering. Admittedly, I'm not a coffee drinker so my palette maybe a little different than most.

tap at beer brothers, ottawa. very dark brown pour with a nice creamy nitro beige head, good retention and lacing. dark roastiness, chocolate, darkly roasted coffee beans, burnt notes - adds a quasi scotch-like smokiness and saltiness, almost over torrefied, chalky vanilla - gladly never overwhelming, moderate sweetness - maple syrup, heavy on minerals. low carbonation, medium body - oily and silky, mineral, bittersweet coffee finish. nice stuff. solidfunk (9213) - Washington D.C., Washington DC, USA - OCT 31, 2013
Very nice beer. Pours pitch black with carpet mocha lacing and a pillow of head. Aroma of vanilla, some nut but vanilla overtakes most roast malt, etc. Very soft carbonation here. Stout in the Irish sense. Finishes with light bitterness. Nice. Tap at Black Tomato.
