Chewy and earthy with a rustic quality, and an extra astringency from the tannins.

Small tulip at home, served cold. Pale white wine colour, gentle carbonation. Apple and gooseberry flavour, with a bit of tart bitterness. However, once again, I found the palate of an Aspall’s cider dull and insipid. Won’t buy again.

Bottle at home, from Waitrose Sunningdale, 05/04/13. Clear pale blonde with no head, very little in the way of colouration. Nose carries fresh apple notes allied to light sugars. Taste comprises apples, light sugars, straw. Medium bodied, light spritzy carbonation, clean crisp finish. Ok cider.

Poured light golden/orange with no head. Aroma of woody apple. Medium, lively body, flavour of tart apple with some sweet spice.

Bottle. Light golden. Ripe red apples, some barnyard funk, a bit of hay. Body is dry, slight tart. A bit of rhubar-apple pie, slight funk. Quite nice, deceivingly easy.

Golden color with a bit of fizz. Fairly dry, a bit of tartness. Earthy, dirty, banana, apple. Not a standout cider, though.

Bottled. Pours pale golden in color. Light funky notes, sweet apple notes and perhaps some light spices as well. Apples mixed with some light barnyard notes in taste. Quite good actually. Light vanilla spicy and tart apples in aftertaste.

50 cl bottle @ Pappila. Rated on 24.07.2010
Aroma is rather leathery with earthy notes, green apples and distant sugary notes. Flavour is sourish and somewhat tart with leathery notes, green apples, hints of spices, fruit sugar and distant earthy notes. I like the leather here. One of the best ciders I’ve had.

leaparsons (10616) - Wigston, Leicestershire, ENGLAND - AUG 25, 2012
Bottle. Pale gold with low carbonation. Aromas are woody with light sulphur and green apple. Lemon with hints of floral honey. Flavours are jammy apple with some tart citrus and trace sulphur. Quite spicy with peppery alcohol. Good.

How can you not give a cider a score of 5 for looks? I guess it comes down to taste. Geddit?
