A superb porter, hearty & dark. This one is a staff favorite, made with pale, crystal, Munich, chocolate, and black malts. The darker malts give Coal its color and rich flavor. We use Target and Willamette hops to yield a very subtle hop flavor in this porter. We cellar this beer for close to six months before releasing it on the thirsty throngs of fans.

Pours Dark brown w/ small 1/4" off white cap of foam, nice aroma of toast and coffee, the body is a bit thin ,the taste is bitter black malt, dark chocolate and dark roast coffee. Ive been diggin the sweet stouts lately and thought this would be similar but this was a lot drier in the finish almost astringent but a good beer non the less.

12 oz bottle bought in Bar Harbor, Maine. Pitch black pour with a beige head and very good retention. Very good lacing. Has a nice, deep rich dark chocolate and dark roasted malt flavor. No coffee notes. Medium body. Smooth.

On one hand nice roasted toasted notes on other hand thin and acetic.

Draft at Flatbread in Portland. Poured a very dark brown with a thin off-white head. Aroma is slightly fruity with some cherries. Some yeast notes with caramel and chocolate. The taste transitions to a roasted malty flavor with nuts. Aftertaste is a little astringent with some hoppy notes. Interesting!

Pours a dark brown from a bottle, big toasty aroma, sweet caramel taste with a cola aftertaste. A little fizzy. Good beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From a 12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear deep cola with a tan head. Aroma of cocoa. Flavors of leather. Roast finish.

Tessic (1218) - Brantford, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 23, 2016
This porter poured a deep black colour with a creamy, tan coloured head. A little lacing. Scents include roasted malts, wine and cocoa. First swig was delicious. Flavours of roasty malts and dark cocoa most prominent. Finish is burnt with minimal bitterness. Fantastic! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft at Doubletree Portland. Pours black with an inch of khaki foam. Leaves trace lacing in the glass. Fairly roasty on the tongue but not a ton on the nose. Finished with a slight bitterness. Solid for style but not spectacular. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Not as bitter as a typical porter, but it is dark as any porter and tastes like a ’typical’ porter,

Pours basically black with a decent sized khaki head that settles to a thick fine-bubbled ring and film and leaves some walls and spots of lace. Nose involves some mild dark chocolate notes, whiffs of woody and floral hops, cream and sugar. Fairly sweet, somewhat bitter. Lighter bodied, active, a bit oily and slick, finishing somewhat dry with woody, earthy hops.

Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from One Stop Market. Aroma is vanilla, roasted malts, dark fruits, chocolate, coffee, caramel, but slight methane/port-o-potty smell when returning the nose to the glass. Appearance is dark brown with finger width light brown head with poor retention and trace lacing. Taste is more bitter coffee and cigarette ash than sweet dark fruits and caramel. Palate is medium bodied with thin texture, average carbonation and bitter ash finish. Overall, something slightly off in the aroma and a bit more ash flavor than I’d care for. Lives up to its name.
