COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An American IPA hopped with criminal disregard. Featuring generous additions of Cascade, Chinook, and Mandarina hops, followed by hints of Munich malt, Ponzi’s aroma writes checks that its flavor cashes. If it seems too good to be true, you’re probably drinking Ponzi.

Okay West Coast IPA, lots of pine and malt with a slight orange-grapefruit undertone. Cascades pave the way, but the Mandarinas get lost amid a hefty resinous middle and lots of sweet grain and caramel malts. Finishes bitter with hints of citrus. Pours a hazed gold with a thin white head that produces surprising amounts of lace. Nose offers up a little pine, a little grapefruit, not much else. Good sparkly texture helps the IBUs from getting too aggressive. Solid mealtime IPA, in that you don't like it so much you refrain from eating to better enjoy your pint.

Sampled at GABF 2017 in Denver, CO. Numerical rating only - did not take detailed notes. I did note that this came off as a total malt bomb.

UPDATED: AUG 20, 2017 A hazed golden ipa with a thin lacing white head. In aroma, nice biscuit malt with grassy resinous hops, light dankness, pleasant. In mouth, sweet biscuit malt with resinous herbaceous hops, light mineral notes, white grapefruit, pleasant. On tap at brewery.

swanmann (781) - Nompton, Oklahoma, USA - JUL 9, 2017
From the can: Clear bright golden with off white foam, settling into a thin sheet. Huge citrus aroma, orange/lemon, some alcohol, grass, malt. Flavor is the same, fruity and citrusy, lemon rind, acidic, slightly tart and sweet and bitter. A touch of syrup and creamy mouthfeel, medium body with adequate carb. Delicious.

Can at the Natural History Museum. Out of the can - no glasses. Med + body. Lots of citrus plus lots of similar hops. Think there’s grapefruit. Nicely bitter. Very good stuff.

12 oz. canned 09/02/2016. Hazy golden, lively body supports a sticky cobweb of foam. Aroma is lemon toffee with whiffs of evergreen and butterscotch. Tastes of lemongrass, evergreen resin and caramel. Finish has some grassy herb and toasted grain notes. Light-medium body is soft and dry with a smooth medium carbonation.

Hazy orange, nice sturdy white foam. Smells like citrus, lemon, grapefruit, that sort of thing. Taste is more citrusy hops, some oaky notes, some caramel and toffee. Tasty stuff.

Can. A nice bitter and fresh-smelling pour. Lots of bitter fruit and a strong malt backing. Aromas of spruce and sandalwood, bright flavors.
