COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Made with three varieties of hops and a generous amount of specialty malts, Rowdy offers a complex flavor and aroma that is both aggressive and fun. The addition of malted rye to the grain bill lends a peppery and distinct character to the beer which complements the bitterness and floral notes of brewhouse hop additions. Finally, this copper-hued ale receives a liberal addition of dry hops in the fermenting vessel, imparting citrus aromas and a crisp, clean finish.

The rye spiciness comes through, but melds into what seems like a touch of roasted malt to give an overall impression of ashtray. Not a bad beer overall, just put off by this one note.

The malt is expressed as dark rye bread, seed bread, caramel. Western hops give it a fruit cocktail / maraschino cherry and orange notes along with faint resin and some noble-like pepperiness and nuttiness. Medium bodied, medium to light sweetness with relatively strong bitterness, finishing long and savory and a little juicy. Pretty nice rendition here, ample malt body to support the strong bitterness, and as it warms it gets more aromatic and interesting, developing layers of spiced / nutty hops and peppery phenols.

Total Wine, Fairfax can: pours light brown with a whitish head. Aroma is heavy rye and hops. Taste is bitter rye. Quite bitter. Simple and not too complex. Tasty, but not great.

Many thanks to travlr for this can! Nice earthy dark malts with a nice intense hop-bitterness and -floralness, that is round and great. Dry roasted malty body with a nice hoppy finish. Typical rye-earthynes, round and great!

Tap at Nationals ballpark. Pours brown with lots of head and lots of lacing. Nose is rye and sweet. Flavours of rye, pepper, syrup and earthy bitterness. Taste is medium sweet, medium/big bitter. Mouth is full body with lively carbonation.

Sampled at GABF in Denver. In the tasting glass was amber with light beige foam. Nose of citrus and rye. Medium body. Flavor is rye first and citrus later. Bitter rye finish. Not bad but I prefer my rye a little for restrained.

Can. Pours a clear dark amber body with a one finger frothy beige head. The nose is a mix of citrusy hops and a nice spicy and earthy rye base. Smells a bit of crystal maltiness. The flavor is a little more slanted towards the spicy rye aspect up front, but becomes a bit more bitter and hoppy towards the finish. Medium bodied with fizzy carbonation and a lingering hoppy and rye malt finish. Interesting beer, I like the heavy rye flavor and the restrained sweetness.
