COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Designed in collaboration with Randy Mosher of 5 Rabbit Cerveceria, Phantasmagourdia was brewed with 300 pounds of roasted pie pumpkins, Mexican cinnamon, Indian coriander, Szechuan peppercorns, and piloncillo. It was then fermented with Trappist ale yeast. The result is an elegant orange Belgian ale with pleasant pumpkin and spice notes

On tap: The aroma consists of light ginger, cinnamon, mild pumpkin, and citrus peel. It’s a transparent orangish-brown with a small beige head that fades to a thin film outlined by a slightly thicker ring. The flavor starts with mild pumpkin and a touch of Belgian yeast. The finish has mild ginger, hints s of cinnamon, and citrus peel. It’s light bodied with moderate carbonation.

16oz pour at The Map Room. Pours a hazy caramel amber with some creamy, white head. Nose has a fairly approachable blend of root vegetables and spice, a little brown sugar, a little cinnamon, some ginger, some mild all spice, a little candy corn. Flavor follows right along, brown sugar, roasted carrots, sweet potato pie, some orange, some lime too, a little Asian pear. Crisp finish.

jstraw (1967) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 1, 2013
Draft at Jerry’s. Amber-caramel with fine bubble, creamy, tan head, decent lacing / Light, delicate nose of caramel, pumpkin, spice / Light to medium body, creamy, modest sweetness, good balance, toasty / Simpler, clean flavors of pumpkin, caramel, apple, clove, cinmamon / A solid pumpkin ale, while not remarkable. The Belgian and more complex spice elements don’t really come through.

4oz pour. Brown orange pour with some light tan head. Spice, pumpkin, light malt aromas. Full pumpkin, lighter spice and sweet malt tones.

NobleSquirrel (3438) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 11, 2012
Draft at Atlas. Pours a deep amber with a sticky offwhite head. The nose is raw grain, some vegetal notes and spicing. Cinnamon and nutmeg, along with some phenolic yeast notes. Clove and cocoa. On tasting, moderately sweet with a drying finish. A phenolic sharpness persists. Spicing borders on muddy. Some astringency and the raw grain comes back again. bready. Okay overall, pretty generic.
