COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cherry Stout is a blend of 6 malts combined with Montmorency Cherry concentrate from our home state of Michigan. A full and dark outing, it features the complexity common to the American style stout with the tartness, not sweetness, of Michigan cherries. The blend of fully fermented fruit and toasted, nutty malt characters bring forth an elusive cherry wood aroma to the finish.

Warning: This tasting was conducted at an earlier date and time, but the results were recorded in a ’notebook’. What follows is an interpretative commentary based on the notes. The reconstituted review is as follows: Bad cough syrup.

12 oz bottle. This beer was very amaturish. Taste was very thrown together like. The mediocre stout flavor and the terrible cherry syrup flavor really didn’t blend together well at all. Some thin and watery body as well. Drainpour.

Poured black with an off-white head. The aroma is not very good. The cherry smell and the chocolate malts do not mix well. Taste is a syrupy sweet grossness. Cherry flavors don’t work well in this. Some chocolate malts and vanilla, but the cherry doesn’t mix. Aftertaste is pretty bad, a slightly sour cherry taste. Points for creativity, but this didn’t work very well.

Pours a black color with a light brown small head. Smells of cherry, alcohol, and malts. Tasty aroma. Taste is very much rich with cherries. Slight bitterness to this beer with some malts mixed in there. Cherry taste is very over powering

Bottle from Half Time. Pours black with a frothy 4 finger tan head. Aroma of tart cherry. Medium body with frothy carbonation. Flavor is tart cherry and some smooth burnt malt. There’s coffee as the cherry goes away. The whole is more tart than anything. It’s certainly interesting. Finally seems to finish a little chocolate cherry.

Bottle. Pours very dark with a huge billowing tan head. Way overcarbonated. Some decent lacing. Aroma is sweet and sour, lots of cherries, and some malt (not nearly enough for a stout). Flavor is more tart cherries and not a whole lot more. I get some roasted malt and a little coffee in the finish. If this were pitched to me as a sour ale, I’d be more happy with it. But as a cherry stout? Eh eh. And, God Almighty, they’ve got to tone down the carbonation.

bottle shared with brewengineer. Awesome near black pour with brown head. Nose is tart verging on sour. But the flavor is fantastic tart cherries and rich milk chocolate and then even more cherry. This is a fantastic cherry stout. the silky smooth body finishes with another lingering tart cherry note.

(Rating #3023)

Black pour with a big, frothy. lasting tan head. Lots of tart, tannic, dark cherry aroma with hints of chocolate, some mild roastiness, and a slight hard water/mineral note but overall a fairly subdued aroma. Tart, harsh vegetal cherry flavor with minimal roast and chocolate. Somewhat lactic. Thin body with too much carbonation. I thought this was infected but after reading other reviews it seems like they just added way too much cherry juice to this and the yeast got a little carried away.

Poured from the bottle to a dark brown with a hint of ruby and a thin tan head that dissipated quickly and left little lacing. Aroma was tart cherry, with a hint of vinegar. Mouthfeel was thin and acidic, at very first trying to resemble a sour-sweet Flemmish ASour, but never getting there. Taste was more acidic tart than cherry and the finish was vinegary and unpleasant. Looked forward to this from the name, but was truly disappointed.
