12oz bottle from Merriman Street Grill
Pours clear dark brown with a small beige head, some lacing. Aroma of vanilla, dark malts, chocolate and coffee. Flavors of roasted malts, caramel, chocolate and vanilla
Pretty good, not much coffee though

Pours opaque dark brown with hint of red, small tan head that goes quickly but leaves some skim. Nose is coffee, roast malt, roast nuts, biscuit. Palate has vanilla in and out, sometimes coming through as itself, or at least vanilla wafers, and other times creating more of a cocoa effect with the coffee. Nothing objectionable in the flavors, but they don’t always seem to blend well. Light-medium body, fine for a porter, but there’s a lot of competition in this part of the marketplace.

(En fût à Sport Shotz Detroit Airport): Graham crackers, vanille enrobante, léger chocolat et une finale évanouissante.

Dark with a flimsy beige head. Plain roast aroma and some pepper. Weird flavor on this guy, some earthy tones, more roast, notes of cola in the end. Like a crisp, watery Guinness. Tastes homebrewish to me.

Bottle. Dark brown pour with light head. Vanilla, roasted, chocolate aromas. Flavors are mostly vanilla, light sweet notes.

Pours dark with a quickly dissipating head. Strong chocolate smell. First taste is all coffee, and doesn’t waver much. I didn’t really get vanilla. It felt kind of "thin" for a porter. But it was smooth, with no bitterness. Better than I expected.

My wife says it looks like mud. It is dark but with a red hue. Strong coffee aroma. The mix with the vanilla actually makes it taste like cocoa. The taste is mildly sweet with a dark finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Brown color with medium head. Aroma of coffee, vanilla ice cream sandwich , nuts, roasted malt. Light texture. Lighter bodied porter. Makes it drinkable. Creamy. Dry finish. This is a solid beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle at home. This tastes like a Cream Soda candle. There’s a lot of vanilla flavor kicking around, but it tastes noticeably artificial and not at all pleasant. The porter base is surprisingly bland -- any coffee, chocolate, or roasted notes are muted and fade away really quickly, which only allows the artificial vanilla to come through even more. It tastes cheap.

It seems like it has quite a few flaws, so I would not think that fans of highly-rated porters like the Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald would like it. However, it is on the mild side as far as overall flavor, so it is almost like a gateway beer for people who usually don’t like beer or only like shandies. It’s ok as a mild porter.
