Very faint aroma of bready, toffee sweetness. You really have to get your nose in there. Pours an impenetrable black, you can only see a little light when held right up to a bulb. No lace or head to speak of. Nice, if typical Dopplebock taste. Medium sweet followed by pleasant bitterness. Cool label. degbert (1772) - Austin, Texas, USA - JUL 23, 2014
Bottle. Pours a dark brown with garnet highlights and a high, fine-grained cinnamon head. Nose is molasses, pumpernickel, baking chocolate, dried fruit, and nutmeg. Sweet up front, with a chocolate/caramel tinge; while that note is nice, there’s just not a lot of complexity that follows it. It’s good for what it is, but there’s very little depth to it; the mouthfeel is very nice and smooth, however. Finish is short and thin. Fair. Raesmama (23) - - JUN 21, 2014
I really liked this! My first dopplebock. A new fav. Nice coffee notes, deep dark color, but not too heavy. rondphoto (4383) - Lakeside Park, Kentucky, USA - JUN 9, 2014
on tap @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Clear deep brown with a dense head that gradually drops to a thick cover, wide bands of lace. Taste is roasted caramel malt that glides effortlessly through the palate to a lightly bittered finish. In one sense, simple, but it is well done and quite tasty. It also hides the 9% abv so well that it is a bit dangerous. Recommended. Brentv (672) - Portland, Oregon, USA - MAY 10, 2014
From bottle. Dark dark red, almost black. No head. No lacing. Aroma of plums and dark fruits. Taste the same, some caramel and nice maltiness. Sweet. A bit flat. No noticeable hops.

Big dark and malty. Caramel, toffee, dark fruit and spice. Hides the alcohol well. doboy (424) - Morehead City, North Carolina, USA - APR 15, 2014
Pours almost black, with a tan head that rings the glass. Nice malty aroma that carries to the nutty maltiness in the taste. Nice mouth feel, easy after taste. Not a bad beer! Never got the 9% taste I expected. bunker (10) - Michigan, USA - MAR 30, 2014
I dont know what to say, I was expecting so much more, the Germans dont have anything to worry about with this one

Nearly black, just a hint of violet in the head. Caramel and licorice hit the nose, then a huge flavor combination of roasted grain, sweet bread, and chocolate pudding. Body turns thin in the finish. Overall missing that classic spice note and more subdued roasted malt. Doesn’t match up to the Kulminator or Korbinian... peteinSD (1469) - San Diego, California, USA - MAR 22, 2014
Bottle from Sean - thanks! Dark brown pour with a tan head. Heavy sweet malt, light spice, dough, and cinnamon in the aroma. Taste is sweet malt and sugary spice with an oddly flavorless finish. Lightly coating mouthfeel. Okay.
