On tap at Slows in Detroit. Decent bock, dark with a thick head. A tad astringent in the finish.

From a bottle in a glass at a restaurant. Nice medium malty flavor. Rich sweet maltiness. Very solid bock.

12 oz. bottle, consumed on 8-17-13. I purchased this the previous winter, so it has at 6 to 10 months of aging on it. Scents of chocolate, carob, caramel, orange, and urine. A bit meaty and mineral-y in the aroma. Somewhat low-end beer smell. Pours reddish copper. Effervescent with some suspended particulate. Dull color except in the light. Mall to moderate amount of golden taupe / tan head. Some suspended particulate. Malty and dry taste. Muffin with a touch of plum in the flavor. Lively in the palate. Medium body. Perhaps this beer is not as bad as the score implies, but I didn’t know where to upgrade it.

12oz bottle. Amber body, unfiltered, glowing. Thin off white head. Not a bad aroma for the style, some fruity yeast notes true to the style, rich caramel. I bought this for 2.99 a six pack in July, it was brewed in December, but it really holds up rather well still. Meaty, chewy thick sugary malt, not quite there in terms of a quality German example, but it is a decent enough representation. Somewhere in between a bock and and doppelbock. Loses points by being a little boring but earns them back by holding up for 7 months.

Pours a clear Amber with a small, fine bubble head. Aromas are of light malt and very little hop. Taste is very thin with bitter malt and a hint of hop, slightly sour and light booze finish. Tastes watered down

Pours dark amber with a caramel clementine aroma. Taste is very malty with almost a sickly sweet flavor. Not my favorite beer but cheap and decent

Ericular (1042) - Minnesota, USA - MAR 5, 2013
Pours a clear deep orange with good head reducing to a thin film with good lacing. Aroma is butter, a little chocolate and molasses, and some fresh apple. Taste is malt, dark breads, and finishes with cloying spiciness. It grew on me and I finished it no problem, but the taste and palate just wasn’t enough to make it stand out as a go-to winter warmer.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled in 11/2012. Pours lightly hazy reddish copper color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of caramel, raisin, apple, molasses, toast, dark bread, light nuttiness, herbal, earth, and light spicy alcohol. Pretty nice and pleasant aromas with solid balance, strength, and complexity. Taste of caramel, raisin, apple, molasses, toast, toffee, dark bread, light nuttiness, floral, light pepper, and herbal earthiness. Lingering notes of caramel, light fruits, molasses, toast, toffee, dark bread, light nuttiness, pepper, and floral earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Pretty nice flavor balance and robustness, with solid complexity; with slight cloying spiciness on the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a lightly creamy and crisp mouthfeel that is ok. Alcohol is well hidden with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a pretty good doppelbock. Solid flavor balance and complexity; and quite smooth to sip on. A pleasantly enjoyable offering.

Bottle. Pours a brown-orange color with a small off white head. Sweet caramel malt aroma with a hint of winter spices. Flavor is what you would expect from the aroma with a big malty body. Finishes with a stange medicinal taste that lingers. Dry texture and average carbonation. Decent, but a step below some other local Winter bocks.
