Bottle from Getränke Kistner in Forchheim. The beer pours out in a deep dark brown colour with steady low head and medium body. Aroma of malt and bread. Taste of roasted malt, roast, torf, leaves, bread and barley. Light smokey hints. Drinkable, yet too smokey for me. Braudog (6791) - Yorktown, Virginia, USA - FEB 21, 2017
Bottle, swingtop. Medium amber with the simplest of small, fizzy head. Classic malty aroma. Drinks with a definite caramel topping, lightly bittered underneath. Bit flat perhaps. Makes me homesick though. (#6517, 2/21/2017) MichaelAwesome (6546) - Wanne-Eickel, GERMANY - OCT 21, 2014
Nettes Dunkel mit den üblichen Verdächtigen: Etwas an Malz, dazu minimal Karamell, und ein paar Nüsse. Die Malzigekit ist nett, dabei natürlich dominierend, der Geschmack eher muffig und tranig. Geht so. obguthr (6535) - Staunton, Virginia, USA - SEP 18, 2016

Bottle looks really good. Beer in the glass very dark, nice head. Intense malty aroma. Starts very malty, with lots of caramel, modest sweet. Soft-malty finish, still wonderful caramel and chocolate notes. Great beer! DutchDrebus (6080) - Oirschot, NETHERLANDS - MAR 13, 2014
Bottle @ benzai. Dark amber colour with a medium sized head. Smells very malty, sweet. Tastes sweet, malty, slightly chocolate or something. Pretty nice dunkel. Medium body, soft carbo. ganache (6012) - New Jersey, USA - MAY 29, 2006
UPDATED: JUL 23, 2006 v.2. Swing-top. Orange-amber and clear with a vanishing tanned-eggshell head. Unusual smell, herby with some cracker, thick bread, and dark malt. Chocolate and toffee, coffee beans, hoppy toast. Tastes much the same. Clean with a dry, dark aftertaste and a spicy middle. Actually, dryness everywhere, and firm bitterness. Sweet toffee and caramel, herby, and some of what I have come to call spaghetti funk. A thinking man’s beer. Big thanks to MoritzF! [3.6] More: after a second bottle, it’s obvious that my palate has expanded to appreciate this; while I had known it to be a masterfully made beer, full of character and layers, it was easier to admire than enjoy.[4.0] duff (5484) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - MAY 19, 2007
Bottle. Quite malty, with notes of nuts and bread, quite woody and with a slight sweetness at the start. Finish shows light touches of grassy hops. Quite a pleasant dunkel. stevoj (5365) - Boise, Idaho, USA - JUN 22, 2013
A dark amber to light-copper colored beer which looks excellent in the glass. Has a syrupy and almost smokey burnt caramel/butterscotch undertone, which strongly dominates every other characteristic of the beer.
