Bottle: Unfiltered
Contract brewed since 1978 by Van Steenberge for the Augustinian monastery at Stephen’s Church in Ghent using the original yeast culture. Sold outside of Belgium as St Stefanus, after the church, to differentiate it from beers that may be made by other Augustinian communities. The monastery receives money from each sale.
Ingredients: Pale, Pilsener and Munich malts; brewing sugar; Saaz, German Hallertau; additional bittering hops.
Partially filtered after primary fermentation, then cool matured for four weeks. Filtered and then reseeded with Brett and another yeast, and warm conditioned for two weeks. Bottled and stored for a minimum three months before distribution.

FireGlider (674) - Zagreb, CROATIA - OCT 13, 2017
Hazy orange color with small white head. Fruity and yeast with hints of alcohol. Light bitter, quite sweet and dry taste. Aftertaste doesn't feel balanced.

Grumbo (3756) - Ipswich, Suffolk, ENGLAND - SEP 23, 2017
Bottle as St Stefanus at The Beagle, Sproughton, Ipswich. Poured hazy mid gold with a frothy, lasting off-white head. Aroma is of yeast, bread, malt, sweet fruit and slightly perfumed. Medium to heavy sweetness, moderate bitterness. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation.

3.2
rumore (700) - Rimini, ITALY - SEP 22, 2017
33cl bottle at L'Alternativa, in Bertinoro, Italy. Pours gold, slightly orange, fairly hazy, with gross white foam. Aroma is fruity from esters, caramel and alcoholic. Body is fairly dense, especially being felt in the finish, with good carbonation. Taste is intensely sweet and caramel, with some underlying bitterness which helps partially in enduring the sweetness. Finish is not particularly interesting.

Piepenhenrich (1191) - Steinbach, GERMANY - SEP 13, 2017
Had it as St. Stefanus, purchased in France. Comes across very elegantly with its label and imprinted bottle, also rather pricey. I don't recall Augustijn to be as expensive, but it seems to be the same stuff. Pours hazy golden, yeasty aroma. Yeasty and fruity flavors are accompanied by a slightly alcoholic aftertaste. A good Blonde after all.

coil (124) - Reading, Berkshire, ENGLAND - SEP 4, 2017
330ml bottle from Waitrose, Sunningdale. Light amber colour with white head, some lacing. Breadiness, sweet biscuity malt, banana, floral notes, clove, big Belgian yeast, light citrus. Palate isn't great, feels a bit over-carbonated even for a Belgian and the body is fairly thin for 7.5% abv, still a nice one though.

rodenbachvintage (147) - Roeselare, BELGIUM - AUG 23, 2017
UPDATED: OCT 11, 2017 Weinig overtuigend blond bier. Eerder middelmatig van smaak. mout, fruit, gist. ook de Zwijntje variant geproefd: te overheersende alcoholsmaak. weinig diepgang. St. Stefanus variant: idem, wel een mooie fles

3.4
AleRider78 (1411) - Winchester, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 10, 2017
Pours a fairly thick foamy white head that leaves some dirty lacing. Has a slightly hazy orange appearance. Citrus and floral hop aromas, mainly oranges and mandarins. Has flavours of Belgian yeast, oranges, some sweet malts and spices in the finish. Excessive carbonation, prickly and tingling sensation. Medium bodied. Pretty good overall, nothing sensational for a Belgian brew.

No more than an avarage abbay beer, but it’s worth a try. Can’t really say more.

Hodně dobré belgické pivo, jedno z těch mých oblíbených. Skvělá svěží chuť, příjemné nasládlé aroma a jemná pěna.
