Contract brewed since 1978 by Van Steenberge for the Augustinian monastery at Stephen’s Church in Ghent using the original yeast culture. Sold outside of Belgium as St Stefanus, after the church, to differentiate it from beers that may be made by other Augustinian communities. The monastery receives money from each sale.
Ingredients: Pale, Pilsener and Munich malts; brewing sugar; Saaz, German Hallertau; additional bittering hops.
Partially filtered after primary fermentation, then cool matured for four weeks. Filtered and then reseeded with Brett and another yeast, and warm conditioned for two weeks. Bottled and stored for a minimum three months before distribution.

Very strong complex taste, with fruity and spicy flavours. Could drink this on many occasions.

Bottle. Here's to our guest - Don't let him rest. But keep his elbow bending. 'Tis time to drink - Full time to think Tomorrow - when you're mending.

Bottle. Pours orange golden body and foam lace top. Aroma has banana from the yeast, toasted malts and some herbal floral hops. Taste is medium to full sweetness and for some that will be a delight and others will be dismayed. It certainly predominates. Palate is medium bodied, slick feel, lively carbonation, and a light sour finish. It may attract a younger and female clientele but it won't recruit an old fossil like me.

UPDATED: JAN 13, 2018 birra forte, buon gusto e corposa, un po' luppolata sul finale. 8/10 pieno, consigliata

Milter (1080) - Nyborg, DENMARK - JAN 12, 2018
Godd og behagelig belisk strong. tilpas med bitterhed og sødme. fyldig øl, der savner lidt friskhed.

azzurro (504) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 7, 2018
An odd beer for a Belgian. I thought it is a high-quality lager/pilsner, but a weak one as a strong Belgian ale.

Nocturne (2238) - Cheshire, ENGLAND - DEC 30, 2017
330ml bottle. Orange shade. White head. Grassy, caramel, sweetish honey finish. Decent, maybe a little sweet and one dimensional though.

Radubrew (10) - ROMANIA - DEC 28, 2017
Good carbonation, nice aroma of orange, a bit of spice, also alcohol, medium hazy body, sweet taste. Aftertaste not quite impressing, but ok.

martpez (373) - Norwich, Norfolk, ENGLAND - DEC 8, 2017
Drank 4 months after bottling. Has a rounded yeasty flavour bit of bean curd and a touch of fruit. Does not hid the avb well. Lovely rich velvet texture. A lesser Belgium ale I have to say. Very sweet.

phfyysik (1485) - Tartu, ESTONIA - DEC 4, 2017
Bottle as St. Stefanus Blonde. Pours amber with high white head. Aroma is malty, yeast, carrot, some vegetables, fruits, light spices. Taste is caramel, fruits, vegetables, yeast, some sweetness, malts. Nice beer!

gorthaurz (132) - CROATIA - NOV 13, 2017
Pours hazy golden with a thin head. Strong malty aroma. Taste of malts, some citruses, sweet. Warm alcohol feeling. Dry sweet aftertaste.
