COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Unfiltered
Contract brewed since 1978 by Van Steenberge for the Augustinian monastery at Stephen’s Church in Ghent using the original yeast culture. Sold outside of Belgium as St Stefanus, after the church, to differentiate it from beers that may be made by other Augustinian communities. The monastery receives money from each sale.
Ingredients: Pale, Pilsener and Munich malts; brewing sugar; Saaz, German Hallertau; additional bittering hops.
Partially filtered after primary fermentation, then cool matured for four weeks. Filtered and then reseeded with Brett and another yeast, and warm conditioned for two weeks. Bottled and stored for a minimum three months before distribution.

Bottle. I bought this in a 6 pack of Belgian beers, and I guess someone stuck the box I bought in a paint can shaker. The moment I popped the cap, it hissed as if hell was being released. Pouring it was a literal nightmare, as the head that frothed out of the Trappist glass was truly a sight to behold. Barely a quarter of the bottle made it into the glass before it began overflowing. I don’t know if it was overcarbonated or not, but it is really disappointing to get a beer in this condition. Body has a tart, tangy flavor, accentuated with a nice burnt straw coloured body. This would have been a good beer had I not had to wait for the head to slowly die off.

Lovely tasty Belgian blonde!
Hazed deep golden color with a fine white head. Good intensity in the aroma. Medium + body and a smooth carbonation level. Nice mellow sweetness and a bit oily texture. Wheat, banana, some spices, fruity and some Belgian yeast in the flavor.

Bought as part of a Winter Sampler Pack. Smells like a belgian beer. Very sweet. Pours a medium gold colour with a slight haze to it. Head lasts to the end. Taste is mild sweetness and fruit with an ale undertone. Great carbonation. Next to no aftertaste. Overall I was very happy with this beer. Will buy again. MB. The Beer Bear-on.

Flesje ong. 1 jaar oud. Aroma vol maar ietwat weeïg. Smaak eveneens vol, enigszins fruitig (banaan?), alcohol goed onderdrukt. Geen hoppige bitterheid waargenomen.

Bottle, from Waitrose, as St Stefanus Blonde. Drunk at the young end of the spectrum as per label guidance - it was on offer and I got two so can age the other! Quite a full amber colour. Decent sweetish malts. Mild spicy hop. Lightly estery. Solid but unremarkable Belgian.
