COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Augustijn Donker is the logical addition to the existing beers Augustijn Blonde and Augustijn Grand Cru and is a true beer of 8% alc. that appeals both the occasional as the seasoned beer lover! With the grand balance between aroma, taste and after taste, the Augustijn Donker is added value in this segment and ensures that the range of Augustijn beers reflects a delicious spectrum of tastes within the rich Belgian beer culture. The beer is not distinctly sweet, as many would expect from a dark specialty beer. It tastes rather lightly smoked with a touch of nuts and caramel.

Faint aroma, too much alcoholic - alcohol is not well hidden. Caramel and licorice.

Bottle at home. This was at the back of the cupboard and about 18 months after the use by date - eek! What a pleasant surprise. It poured superbly clear deep red with a thin head. Really nice aroma: the malt is there with nuts and earthy hop, melded to a polished finish. Malt forward taste with very subtle bitterness to follow. Flavours of marzipan, baked fruits, hazelnut and leafy, herbal hop. The body is a bit thin, but this is a really nice beer that rewards keeping for a bit - I have been disappointed with these beers in the past as they can be awful but I’m glad I found this one.

GemmeDeReve (89) - FRANCE - MAR 22, 2017

caesar (7098) - Bunnik/Utrecht, NETHERLANDS - MAR 6, 2017
Bottled as some typical etiketbier from a local liquorstore in the Netherlands, where they try to sell you their own private beer as special, but in reality it is a 8% Augustijn Donker. Dark copper color, short frothy head. Aroma is slight spicy, some caramel, chocolate and butterscotch. Bit spicy in taste, bit dry, some sweet caramel. Medium carbonation. Decent beer ofcourse. Ah well, maybe it is better those etikettenplakkers buy a decent beer and label it with their own private label, than that they brew a horrible homebrew and sell it for outrageous prices.

Zilverenmaan (174) - Antwerp, BELGIUM - FEB 17, 2017
Aroma faint, rather alcoholic, appearance beautiful: dark redbrown with thick, sticky head. Taste warm caramel, licorice, only a hint of dark fruits, mostly an alcoholic fruityness. Decent abbey dubbel.

Strangebrewer (1297) - Chatham, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 30, 2016
UPDATED: JAN 10, 2017 bottle. Poured hazy brown with a thin tan head. Boozy treacle aroma. Medium body, tight carbonation, palate cleansing, slightly metallic. Flavour of dark fruit, raisins, sour cherries. Alcohol well masked

Dark brown, persistent foam. Slightly roasted malt accents, caramel. Well balanced.

Barwa brunatna, beżowa gęsta drobna piana. Aromat średnio intensywny. Poprawny Dubbel, chociaż piłem lepsze.
