Bottle from Fermentation. Clear amber pour with a frothy white head with good lacing. Initial sweet caramel, toasted bread with piney and earthy hops. Chewy caramel maltiness in the flavor with toast, earthy and pine hops with notes of booze in the back end. Way too sweet for me, possibly an old bottle.
Clear attractive orange-burnt sienna. Spotty lacing. Big nice nose of some sort of cookies with toffee. Thick mouthfeel, , and in the mouth this goes through several quick transitions. Raisins, prunes and dark caramel aromas from a slightly hazy amber/orange body with a very fluffy and persistent white head. The flavor seems more tame with some raisin component along with dark cherries and woody, dry bitterness. A nice honey/caramel sweetness balances this bitterness out nicely. The alcohol is apparent and appropriate. The overall effect is very balanced but almost seems tight in that it doesnít seem to deviate much through the sip. Thatís not a bad thing because itís delicious and it makes this more like a traditional European strong ale. Or maybe I waited too long to drink it and itís mellowed out. In any case, it finishes with a lasting caramel sweetness and dry woody aftertaste. I wish this was released more often than every 4 years, but now Iíve got something to look forward to in 2020! Big malt and big hops - that generally sums up Ale to the Chief. It pours amber/dark orange. Itís hazy and has an off-white layer of foam. Dank pine needle aroma and wet fallen leaf aromas. Flavor is similar to many beers that bear the American Strong Ale designation. Caramel malts at the start. Happily that caramel note is clear but not overly sweet. The same can be said for the hop profile; the hops are assertive but not so bitter as to be a bracing, stark contrast to the fat malts. They have floral, piney, leafy, zesty, and tea-like qualities. A clear, deep reddish-gold pour with a frothy white head with excellent lacing. The aroma has spicy hops with a malty backbone. It has a medium body with slick texture with average carbonation. The taste bittersweet with a slightly bitter finish and alcohol warmth.

Bomber from total wine west Richmond. Pours clear Amber with a frothy off-white head. Aroma of caramel, pine, grapefruit juice, dark fruit. Flavor is pale, black cherry, glue, pine, caramel. Finishes bitter and juicy.
