On tap at Pizza Port’s Barrel Blast. Cab and zin barrels. 9.5%. Pours with a hazed orange body with a lasting off-white head over the top. Aroma is funky, bretty, phenolic, stone fruit, peach skins. Flavors of strawberry, peach, funk, lots of fruit, light currant and peppery, wine and a ton of tannic bitterness. Lively and funky. The ABV is well hidden. Very tasty. Hazed pumpkin in color, nice frothy off-white head. Nose is nice and sour with evident wine notes and a touch of nutty cheese funk and some vinous oak influence. Very nice flavors as well..thickly sour with a tart body that consumes the palate. Clean sourness that doesnt tend to be overly acidic yet still consuming, clean, and focused. Oaky and vinous character for sure. Better than expected from Avery, for sure...showcases the wine barrels like a champion. wetherel (1886) - Cupertino, California, USA - APR 6, 2010
On tap at OBriens, leftover from the Belgian Fest. Wow. What a great sour beer. Light acetic character. Some acidity. Amber color. Some sweetness. Easy to drink. Nice. juiceisloose (1496) - Windermere, Florida, USA - MAR 4, 2011
On tap at Pizza Port’s Belgian beer fest. This is a blend of sour ales aged in Cabernet and Zinfandel barrels. This one pours a hazy, dark golden orange color and crowned by a small, smooth head of off white foam. The aroma is very vinous with tons of soured fruit forming the base. Notes of peaches, oranges, and lemons followed a touch of funk, vinous oak and acidity. The flavor follows suit with more of soured peaches and oranges along with the vinous oak and funk. The wine barrels really shines through leaving a clean sourness. A touch of lactic cream smooths out the acidity and adds just a touch of sweetness to all the sourness. Nearly full bodied and smooth coating the palate nicely with balanced carbonation that leads to a lengthy vinous oak finish. The wine barrels really come through and add a lot of depth and flavor. Really nice sour ale that uses the wine barrels perfectly. nbutler11 (1267) - Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, ENGLAND - JAN 19, 2011
Co-rate! Lots of jokes about this one’s name. Tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad barrel event. Murky orange brown. Aroma of red wine, taste of sour/lacto malt. Very nice. hapjydeuce (1001) - Carlsbad, California, USA - MAY 12, 2010
Backlogged rating. On tap at O’Briens in San Diego. How does this not have more ratings coming from Colorado? Barrel-aged sour from what I remember. Light orange color with fizzy carbonation. Pleasant aroma of sour apple with a touch of candied cherry. Flavor pulls away from the former to really funky cheese and yeast biscuit. A bit metallic on the end. Had a hard time tasting the oak.
