The hallmark of Belgian Triples are fruity esters balanced with a dry finish that fall in the range of 7-9% ABV. And for this year’s 19th anniversary celebratory brew, we decided to create a stylistically perfect beer—something unusual considering our penchant for producing eccentric beers that defy styles or categories.

In excited anticipation of 20 years and the new brewery, we concocted this very traditional, yeast driven, dry and fruity Tripel.

Hop Variety: Bravo, Czech Saaz
Malt Variety: Two-row barley, Wheat, Oats
Yeast Variety: Achouffe

19th Anniversary, Vintage 2012. 22oz bottle, silver foil wrapped. Pours clear, golden yellow color, zero head. No foam. Very fruity nose, vinous aroma. Bready yeast character, loads of tart fruit. This is a yeast dominated brew. Character of wheat malt. Flavors of tart apple, lemon zest, bread, some plantain, and golden raisin, then some spice as well. Finishes very dry, not much sweetness to it. (3419)

Strong, fruity aroma has a yeasty overtone and a malty hint. Pours a slightly hazy solar yellow with a whitish head that departs rather quickly. Lip-smacking fruity flavor has sour apple and hop-bitter undertones plus hints of malt and butterscotch, a touch of sweetness that nicely balances the sour and bitter. Smooth texture has good body, but fizz is lacking. A tasty tripel, worth seeking whilst it’s available.

Crisp and clean aroma. Quite drinkable and extremely refreshing. An outstanding beer for the dog days of summer.

Nephilium (1821) - Cleveland, Ohio, USA - AUG 4, 2012
Mild spice aroma to start this beer off, pours a hazy straw, with a thin white head. Light fruit flavor, with a touch of spicing, finishes dry. Very light mouthfeel, with no noticeable alcohol. A middle of the road, nothing out of the ordinary Tripel. Still very drinkable and enjoyable.

Location: Draft at the Ginger Man, 8/3/12

Aroma: This one has a rather fruity nose, with a good amount of Belgian yeast, and spice note
Appearance: It pours a cloudy golden color, with a thick, white head, and fairly heavy lacing
Flavor: The flavor is medium-plus sweet, with a good yeastiness, some funk, and some spice
Palate: It has a medium body, with a feel that is creamy and smooth, and a soft carbonation
Overall Impression: I really enjoyed this one. Three of us ordered this beer at the same time, and we all agreed that is was a quite good example of the style. It is a touch on the sweet side, but the sweetness, and everything else for that matter, works here.

This was really tasty. I went through this quickly. Very subtle farmhouse notes. A little spice and it adds up to a great beer. My favorite of the anniversary beers that I have tasted.

Draft. Pours a hazy yellow color. Notes of banana, candi sugar, noble hops, cinnamon, and grass. Nothing stands out.

(bottle - 22 oz) Cloudy gold pour with a fizzy white head. Mildly sweet and yeasty aroma with some light spice. Slightly bitter and floral at the start with a very mild fruity and sweet yeasty middle. Lightly bitter and spicy finish.

gregwilsonstl (2613) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - JUL 28, 2012
Cloudy white. Thin head. Sweet. Some citrus. Yeasty. Some spices. This is a great wit beer, not quite a began though.

KAggie97 (3529) - Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA - JUL 27, 2012
Pours an average cheddar yellow with a nose of weak hay, light bready straw, and a touch of honeyed peach. Flavor is watery hay with stale sweetbread and lightly roasted dark fruit. Watery on the tongue. A mess.
