The hallmark of Belgian Triples are fruity esters balanced with a dry finish that fall in the range of 7-9% ABV. And for this year’s 19th anniversary celebratory brew, we decided to create a stylistically perfect beer—something unusual considering our penchant for producing eccentric beers that defy styles or categories.

In excited anticipation of 20 years and the new brewery, we concocted this very traditional, yeast driven, dry and fruity Tripel.

Hop Variety: Bravo, Czech Saaz
Malt Variety: Two-row barley, Wheat, Oats
Yeast Variety: Achouffe

beerdad (397) - Kansas, USA - JUL 12, 2012
bottled. pours golden orange with almost no head. aromas of banana, raisin and clove. yeast aromas are also present. alcohol is well hidden. thin bodied and thin mouth feel. palate is uneventful, overall its just ok.

Bottle and served in my big ole Tripel Karmeliet glass (a fine choice by me): Pours a hazed golden hue with a lasting frothy head and spotty lace. The aroma comes off with some classic vapours of bubblegum, toffee, light candi sugar, and massive yeast esters. Yet there is a nice grassy and herbal hop component here too along with some peppery notes. The banana nose seems to make it more a hybrid between a Tripel and a Weizenbock. The taste is sweet as expected with a mild hop background, some spice and some noticeable alcohol. Yep, it is a Belgian Triple and tastes like a solid traditional one at that. The mouth feel is smooth and oily but I still think this a touch thinner than it should be. Overall, this is a solid brew true to the genre and worth a try. World class... nope but geek worthy... yes. Haters move along (you know who ur) and do not bother me.

Draft at Jerry’s. Hazy yellow with decent, creamy, white head / Rich, elegant nose of banana, soap, citrus, and hay / Full body, creamy and sweet, but resinous and with good hopping and nice, bitter finish / Flavors of banana, pear, passion fruit, orange, coriander, hay, clove, and oak / A beauty.

FURLYSURIOUS (263) - Orono, Minnesota, USA - JUL 12, 2012
Pours a bit thin... lacking much of a head and no real lacing, a slight suggestion of alcohol legs but that’s about it. A smidgen of beading. Nose is nice and clean. Banana, clove, mango, syrupy fruit. Some nice yeast presence as well. Bready, peppery yeast, more banana, and a strange alcohol character that I wouldn’t expect from the ABV. The taste unfortunately suffers from the lack of body. Overall, worth trying but not much else. I’d love to try this one on tap sometime.

Dorwart (2598) - Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA - JUL 8, 2012
Had to fight like hell to get any head on this brew. Thin white head of fine bubbles with light carbonation. Frutiy aroma with some pears and lemons, yeast and hay. Color is a slightly hazy bright golden orange. Wow, delicious malts and fruit in the flavor reminiscent of some of the great belgian tripels. Lively mouthfeel from the effervescence with more pears, sweet malts, lemon grass and some creamed corn. Light alcohol presence and warming. Finishes grainy with a lingering herbal hops bitterness. A very good and very enjoyable belgian tripel.

Pours a hazy golden color with one finger head with small lacing. Sweet and slightly tart flavor with medium finish. Full bodied. Soft carbonation.long subtle finish

Yellow orange pour with some haziness. Aroma is a musty, bready with a little bit of citrus. Some alcohol flavor and spices with a peppery finish. Enjoyable.

On tap at Capone’s. Lightly hazy yellow color with a smaller sized head. Fruity, pears, apples, and spices. Tastes of the same fruitiness, spices, caramel, and yeast. Some alcohol in the finish. On the sweeter side.

22, capped and foiled. Pours a cloudy medium gold with a scant loose white film atop. Mild green apple nose showing dust and hay. Fizzy medium body. Toast, caramel, green apples, dust, and hay on the mid palate. Mildly acidic finish. Not too bad.

Clear golden with a small white head and no lacing. Aroma of bread, must, citrus, and funky yeast. Taste is bready and yeasty with some fruit and a mild bitterness. Medium bodied and dry. Decent tripel.
