We use to frequent the brewery every week while living in Boulder... Which we terribly miss!! Anyway, back to the beer; it was a very pleasant surprise the day we tasted this delicious treat. As far as top 5 beers I have ever had in my life, and it’s an extensive collection, this is the best for style and taste. Deep brown pour. The nose is coriander with a distinctly herbal hop nose. A little bit of grassiness on the back of the soft cocoa. It’s lightly earthy and hoppy with a lingering hoppy flavour toward the finish. Chewy and lightly coffeeish. TomDecapolis (4618) - Milton, Delaware, USA - JUL 5, 2010

Tap @ Avery. Deep Brown with a frothy light tan head. Aroma of chocolate, caramel, roasted malt and some earthy notes. Flavors about the same, mostly on the sweet side, but not cloying, don’t really get any hop bitterness. Medium body but kind of a thin watery mouth feel. A fairly solid strong dark lager - smooth and creamy texture - sweet up front, with rich chocolate flavors - dry and roasty later, with a medium-low level of hop bitterness to compliment it - a bit of bright berry character near the finish - a couple of off yeast characteristics, but nothing major - lingering cocoa and hops - decent.

Draught at Avery. Pours dark brown to black with medium, frothy light tan head, good retention. Aroma is clean, dark malt, chocolate and caramel, medium hops and a clean lager character. Draft at brewery, pours brown with white head. Nose is piney, toasted malts, flavors have a big hop presence for the style, pine, grapefruit, with a charred chocolatey finish. Pretty smooth finish. Not bad.
