Pours dark daark brown with a little cream head that quickly disappears and some coconut floating on top. Aroma is nice but off point for what it is; nice barrel influence and rum, some vanilla, some roastiness, but not quite getting too much coconut. There is definitely some heat to this, as I would expect from past Avery offerings and just the fact that its 17%. Flavor is super sweet; lots of coconut and vanilla, tons of sugar, rum and its barrel, some chocolate. Mouthfeel is thick and straight up viscous, which I usually like but found was a detractor for this beer to a degee. Overall, definitely sweet as hell but kinda enjoyable in moderation. I split this bottle with a friend, would have even been better off having split it between 2 others. Would not drink this again. ajnepple (6622) - Denver, Colorado, USA - OCT 14, 2013
Sampled at The Argonaut during GABF week. Brown/black with a tan head. Huge, yet smooth coconut porter with dark chocolate and light rum. Sweet finish. Wow. HonkeyBra (4044) - Lemont, Illinois, USA - OCT 11, 2013
12 oz. bottle shared with my man Cary. Pours a cola brown color with small ring around the glass. Aroma of coconut, rum, chocolate candy bar, lots of cocoa and booze. Intoxicating aroma. Flavor is sweet, alcohol sweet, slight alcoholic burn, medium barrel notes. Slick, oily body, full mouthfeel, average carbonation. Finishes big and sweet. Interesting. Thick brown colour. Big beer, surprisingly not boozy. Lots of rich chocolate, with coconut in finish. Must be shared.

Bottle thanks to the Dood! Pours near black with a deep brown head that dissipates quickly and completely. Aroma has notes of raisins, dark grains, bitter chocolate and a bit of coconut. Flavor is extremely sweet with coconut and sweet chocolate with a hint of roasted malts backing. Overly sweet.

Bottle thanks to Ratman. Near black hued body with a tan head and menacing legs. Aromas are of raisin bran cereal, deep toasted malts, dark fruits, toasted coconut, fudge cocoa, rum barrel, marshmallows and a boat load of alcohol, smells like an intense and decadent experience. Flavors are big boozy, rummy and sweet. A bit of an odd and sugary, sweet then metallic transformation. I wish there were some bourbon tannins to balance things out. It’s boozy, it’s sweet, but nice coconut and rum flavors carry it well. Some milk chocolate character. Viscous, and alcohol heft/ sweetness dominate the body. Super drinkable (haha, no, not really), but as expected its a punch to the palate. Overall: flavorful, nothing off, ethanol sweetness, wish their was more balance through a bourbon like tannin. 355mL thanks to minorthreat. Flatter clear deep brown. No foam. Legs in their place Woah buddy. Nose reminds me of the Schorsbrau ultra eisbocks: extreme twizzlers candy, starchy, chocolate rum mixed cocktail. Taste is sticky red twizzlers, starchy movie theater cheap candy. Cloying, sticky to the max. Nothing about this says coconut porter. Why was 17% desired and why did people want it? MacBoost (1898) - Victor, New York, USA - SEP 14, 2013
As it warms, it gets more soy saucy in taste. Sticky to the max. Undrinkable really. Why?
Poured like black sewage water. Aromas of baby shit. Taste was nothing but cloyingly sweet dumpster juice. Finished hot and sweet with a burn. Not good, my brothers. Not good. XmnwildX12 (2079) - Farmington, Minnesota, USA - SEP 14, 2013
Big aroma of rum and some coconut. Taste is similar but a bit close to cloyingly sweet, good with the small pour.
