Notes from Churchkey Avery Cellar event. 2013 bottle->snifter. Deep brown with bare head. Sweet chocolate, coffee, coconut. Thick and syrupy. Great. pushkinwow (2789) - Ottawa, CANADA - JUL 13, 2013
12oz bottle as a bonus from minor threat. Just a warning for those who don’t always pay attention to bottles like me that this is a 17% beer so maybe don’t open it by yourself :) Black with a ruby hue, faint biege head that fades to nothing and some white floaters (coconut maybe?). Roasted coconut, bit of malibu rum without the overwhelming sweetness that I associate with that liquor - more of a rich dark rum, some alcohol but not a lot, dark vanilla, bit of PC cola too (including some of the sugar. Mild carbonation, moderate+ body, booze is present but to be honest fairly well hidden, smooth yet sticky, sweet without being cloying, more alcohol on the finish then anywhere else along with some sticky and sweet malt with a bit of molasses. An odd combination but it works and its quite interesting - be sure to drink it with one of those little umbrellas in your glass. MadIndian (2743) - Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 23, 2013
Bottle gift from SJ. Damn was this good. Nice notes of bitter chocolate, roast, earth and coconut. Nice full body, alcohol was blended in with a mix of sugary greatness. Well Done. wedgie9 (2702) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - FEB 4, 2015
Tasted on 11/16/13 from a capped 12oz bottle at our Avery Barrel-Aged tasting. Pours clear but very dark brown with a very thin tan head that slowly disappears. The nose is hot with a ton of dark molasses, milk chocolate, and vanilla oak. The flavor is super sweet and very hot with tons of brown sugar, milk chocolate, and vanilla with some coconut on the back of the palate. The body is massive with light carbonation and a long sweet coconut, milk chocolate, and vanilla finish. dimenhetfield (2486) - , Florida, USA - AUG 24, 2013
12oz bottle shared with friends. Lots of coconut, rum and booze in the aroma. Drinks very easily though it’s sort of hard to tell what style it should be called. Not dark enough for a stout, somewhere along the lines of an imperial brown or porter.

bottle thanks to Ratman197. pours a dark brown / light black with floating specs of coconut. some carbonation bubbles up upon pouring but quickly dissipates. sweet nose with layers of rum, chocolate, dark sugar, alcohol and light coconut. certain aspects of the aroma are hidden by the sugars and alcohol. very sweet throughout with really nice layers of chocolate, coconut, caramel and rum. tastes like a desert / candy bar. very warming on the finish as the alcohol is evident. soft carbonation with a very creamy body. excellent flavor profile from start to finish. 12 oz. bottle. Thanks, Brian! Pours black, with an aggressive, very bubbly, tan head that is gone almost immediately. Massive boozy aroma, with notes of vanilla, toasted oak, and malt balls. Black bread, sweet cherries, coconut, milk chocolate, cloves, and sherry. Very sweet and boozy, and just a hint of of tartness which plays very nicely. This is a phenomenal, booze bomb. No subtlety, but glorious rum notes and smooth maltiness. Delicious! Westmeister (2129) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - JUL 17, 2015
Shared with jrob21. thanks wchesser for sending this a while back. A must share beer. The booze is heavily present in a super sweet raisin soaked rum, big caramel sweetness. Just stays on this good side of being too much. In my 4 oz sample I rather enjoyed it. XmnwildX12 (2079) - Farmington, Minnesota, USA - SEP 14, 2013
Big aroma of rum and some coconut. Taste is similar but a bit close to cloyingly sweet, good with the small pour. wchesser (2074) - Denver, Colorado, USA - SEP 3, 2013
Pours deep brown with almost magenta tinge. Slick on top, maybe some very small floaters. Nose of booze, rum, vanilla. Taste is hot booze, very sweet, finish of milk chocolate, rum, and a hint of toasted coconut. Really does taste like taking a bite of Mounds and doing a shot of rum. Split the bottle two ways for dessert, but 4 would have been better. Too sweet and hot for me.
