3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 ounce bottle, bottled Sept. 18 2009. A big thanks to Jeremy for this, and thanks to Eric for bringing it. Pours a opaque red-brown color with a medium white head. The aroma is strong; sweet funky brett and barrel, light vinous wine notes. A tart and funky flavor; brett, sweet french oak, light fizzy vinous flavors, sour and very much like a white wine or even champagne. Perhaps a bit of bourbon lingers on the end the palate suggesting sweeter flavors that ultimately lose out to barnyard funk and vinous sour flavors. No alcohol present at all really and very easygoing, not over the top in any aspect.
[1/29/17] Bottle/Can/Crowler/Growler at the RateBeer award ceremony bottle share at Flamingo Hotel in Santa Rosa. Murky orange. Fruitiness, wine, oak, vinegar, acidic, light sweetish hint. RobertDale (6755) - Lansing, Kansas, USA - FEB 3, 2017
Shared bottle. Pours golden brown with just the trace of a head. Aroma of tart fruit and funk. Taste is tart fruit, funk, and some vinegar. Holding up barely. BiiruBierBeer (1056) - Phoenix, Arizona, USA - JAN 3, 2015
Smells like sourness and malt. Taste is a bit of oxidation, malt, and tangy sourness. HonusWagner (2218) - Florida, USA - DEC 2, 2014
Comes through with a strongly fruity sour cherry character and lots of mixed berries but there’s a strong vinegar line that keeps this beer from being brilliant. One of the best Avery sours I’ve had. Thanks whoever for sharing this at Ryan’s. djd07 (15330) - Houston, Texas, USA - JUL 17, 2014
Bottle thanks to Tom. Pours a cloudy orange with small off white head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is strong oak, brett, and nice funk. Thin mouthfeel with nice lacto, oak, and brett with nice light tart finish, very impressive.

Melon, and dark berry vanilla, a little sweet. Cloudy orange brown, minimal head. Very sort of citric sour upfront, followed by some melon and berry sweetness and some subtle oakiness that becomes more prominent as it finishes. Extremely lively acidic palate. Really interesting.

Bottle. *** GUSHER ALERT **** Major Gusher. Poured a cloudy amber color with an off white head. Fruity, vinous, caramel, and funky. I wished this one didn’t gush, as it was nice and hated to see 1/2 the bottle spewed all over the bar. bhensonb (15602) - Woodland, California, USA - SEP 23, 2013
Bottle from bu11zeye. Pours hazy amber with a thick cream beige head. Aroma is quite sour flowers and malt. Med body or nearly. Flavor is sour but the cab and oak are prominent. Quite red berry. Very sour, woody and pleasing. Rather mellow finish (for a sour!). marcus (10560) - Sacramento, California, USA - SEP 23, 2013
Bottle shared by bhensonb. Pours cloudy amber with some floaties , a sour fruit aroma and an attractive off-white head. There is a mellow pleasantly sour caramel malt flavor. Still some carbonation and a good deal of oak. A lovely drink. arminjewell (9720) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - AUG 24, 2013
Pour out of 12 oz bottle, very foamy, egg shell white head, lasts pretty well. Aroma brought notes of nice tart red fruits, dark fruits, hints of oak, tannins, hints of the typical avery sour blend yeast, slight vanilla. Taste is a mix of nice white fruits, hints of oak, caramel, toffee, hints of nice lemon, touch of vanilla, slight earth, finishing sweet, slightly bitter, oaky, dry. Held up well.
